Americanism Essay ContestTitle, Dates of Contest & Eligibility • TITLE: • How Can I Encourage My Friends to Show Pride in Being an American? • DATES OF CONTEST: • November 1, 2010 – February 1, 2011 • ELIGIBILITY: • In the State of Maryland, the contest in limited to students in grades 3 through 8 divided into three classes (groups) with the respective word count requirement for each class

Americanism Essay ContestForm & Requirement • FORM: • Must be neatly written or typed; must conform to word requirement for class (group); and the student’s signature must be at the end of their essay. • REQUIREMENT: • The American Legion Auxiliary Cover Sheet must be completed in full.
Americanism Essay ContestJudging & Prizes • JUDGING: • A panel of judges will evaluate the essays. The decision of the judges shall be final. • PRIZES: • Unit and/or District prizes may be awarded • ALA Department of Maryland • ALA Eastern Division
Americanism Essay ContestALA Department Of Maryland Prizes Three prizes shall be awarded in each contest level (I, II, III)
Americanism Essay ContestALA Prizes • The winners at the local American Legion Auxiliary Unit level advance to compete at the ALA District level. (NOTE: The awarding of prizes at the Unit and District levels are up to the discretion of the Unit and District.) • The winners at the District level advance to compete at the ALA Department (state) level. • The winners at the Department level advance to compete at the ALA Eastern Division level. • Winners at the Eastern Division level will receive $50.00 and a $50.00 honorarium in the student’s name to the National President’s Scholarship Fund.
