  2. PROPERTY MANAGEMENT MISTAKES Property management is a complex job that requires various skills. Not giving employees proper training can lead to costly mistakes. Only training new hires. Ongoing training is important for all staff, not just new employees. Experienced staff should regularly refresh and expand their skills. A) Focusing too much on software/technical training. While software and tech skills are important, training should cover a wide range of topics like customer service, marketing, leasing, maintenance, legal issues, etc. B) Not tailoring training to specifc roles. Training needs for leasing agents vs. maintenance staff will differ. Effective training is customized. C) Offering only one-time training. Training should be continuous over an employee's tenure. A single course upon hiring is not suffcient. D) Not tracking/measuring training results. There should be ways to assess training outcomes like tests, surveys, monitoring performance metrics, etc. E) Failing to get employee input. Ask staff about gaps in their skills or knowledge to identify training needs. F) Not having clearly defned training requirements and protocols. Lack of structure around training leads to inconsistencies. G) The key is to make training an ongoing priority and continually evaluate effectiveness and staff needs. Proper training is an investment that pays off in better performance. H)
