  1. MITM – The Rising Threat to Internet Users

  2. Use encrypted version of websites   Ensure to use encrypted version of websites (i.e. those starting with HTTPS). You can install a browser plugin like “HTTPS Everywhere” that seeks out HTTPS connections on any website visited and enforces it every time.

  3. Avoid free WiFi hotspots   Avoid using unencrypted or free WiFi hotspots for any sensitive transactions.

  4. Check for WPA2 encryption   Check whether your home WiFi router is using WPA2 encryption, not WEP, and reset the default password to a strong 15 plus character password.

  5. Everything is Updated   Ensure your operating system, antivirus and applications are always updated.

  6. Avoid Site Without SSL   If your browser is warning you that the website isn’t SSL certified, leave the site.

  7. Online Banking Security   Stop using your home or work computer for online banking, instead use a dedicated laptop.

  8. Two-Factor Authentication   Ensure to setup a two- factor authentication on all your key accounts such as banking and email.

  9. Monitoring is Important   Monitoring your accounts for any changes or unusual activity is quite important.
