Existing situation - Location& conditions - • Location: Prishtina Airport is located about 20 km south-west from Prishtina centre • The airport is both civil and military air base • The International Security Force (KFOR) controls and coordinates use of airspace over Kosovo • Airport is administrated and managed by UNMIK and a civilian airport authority • It is envisioned that control of civil air traffic will be returned to Ministry of Transport and Communications and civilian authorities as soon as possible

Existing situation - Facilities (1) - • 2500 m x 45 m runway with elevation of 545 m above sea level • Full parallel taxiway located to the west side of the runway • Military air base for fighter aircraft located to west of airport, connected to runway by two long taxiways; • Emergency control tower installed by Royal Air Force; • Passenger terminal area including passenger terminal building with about 2000 square meters floor area and 13.680 square meters apron receiving 3 planes of type “C” ICAO code letter

Existing situation - Facilities (2) - • Airport administrative building close the passenger terminal building • Fire fighting station provided by airport authorities • The KFOR headquarters (offices and hangar)for airfield security and maintenance • Landsite military freight handling area next to the car park of the passenger terminal building • Landsite fuel farm in front of the fire fighting station.

Existing situation - The Master plan Pristina Airport - • UNMIK has commissioned Sofreavia to produce master plan study for Prishtina Airport • The present study • covers a development period of about 20 years,in short (2005), medium (2010) and long term (2020) • takes into consideration IMG report dated October 1999 and ICAO report dated December 1999

Existing situation - Location& conditions - • Location: Gjakova Airport is situated on the northeastern side of Gjakova, on a distance of 5 km from the city • The airport is military air base of Italian Air Forces “AMIKO” • Airport is administrated and managed by Italian Air Forces “AMIKO” • The airport serves KFOR and humanitarian flights

Existing situation - Facilities - • 1800 m x 30 m runway with elevation of 417 m above sea level • Parallel to the runway there is a taxiway that links the two aprons (alpha and beta) which serves for parking of airplanes and helicopters • The surface of apron “A” is 240m x 103m, and apron “B” is 113m x 95m • For the moment there is a mobile control tower from which the air traffic control is carried out.

  11. PROPOSED PROJECTS FOR PRISHTINA AIRPORT There are many project ideas for development of the Prishtina Airport. We mention those projects, which could be very significant for Prishtina Airport and which were requested from ICAO as a condition for Prishtina Airport to be certified as civil airport.

Proposed project # 1 - Construction of new control tower - • During war time the old control tower was destroyed by NATO bombing • Existing emergency control tower has been installed by the Royal Air Force and handed over to Italian Air Forces • Implementation of a new control tower and operation building (ATC building), including all the required ATC / COM / MET equipments, is planned to be carry out as soon as possible • Requested value for this project: 4,320,000.00 €

Proposed project # 2 - Overlaying the runway - • Cracks in many places on the runway • Only solution: new and entire runway overlay with asphalt • Dimension of the existing runway is 2.500 m x 45 m. • Goal: to increase capacity and to improve safety of the Prishtina Airport. • Requested value for this project: 5,200,000.00 €

Proposed project # 3 - Drainage of airport - • Pristina Airport terrain is on land with underground waters. • In rainy times (especially in the spring and autumn) the runway is overflowed. • This requests urgent drainage of airport in order to have regular and safe flights • Requested cost for this project: 3,000,000.00 €

Proposed project # 4 - New ILS for runway 35 - • In order to comply with ICAO/IFR (Instrument Flight Rules), runway strip must be enlarged on both sides of runway • 300 m wide runway strip is required (150 m on both sides of runway centre line) • Existing fence shall be moved to regular distance from runway centre line in compliance with ICAO obstacle clearance surfaces • Requested value for this project: 1,250,000.00 €

Proposed project # 5 - Construction of fire fighting station - • Construction of fire fighting station in Prishtina Airport is considered to have high safety importance • Being classified in category 6, the Prishtina Airport must be equipped with fire fighting station • The project will consist of vehicles, garage, equipment, water distribution system, medical unit etc. • Requested value for this project : 3,000,000.00 €

Proposed project # 6 - Laws, regulation, training - • Ministry of Transport and Communications wants to develop and rise Prishtina Airport to ICAO Standards level • This requests new laws, regulations and other instructions according to European standards. • Training of management staff and experts in other European Countries in order to have modern, competitive and safe airports for the future • Capacity building on civil aviation management • Requested value for this project : 1,000,000.00 €

  19. MTC is focused in two priorities: To make Master Plan for Gjakova Airport Extension of existing runway from 1800m x 30m to 2400m x 45m PROPOSED PROJECTS FOR GJAKOVA AIRPORT

Proposed project # 1 - Master Plan of Gjakova Airport - • Ministry of Transport and Communications wants to develop and rise Gjakova Airport as alternative airport of Prishtina Airport, because of fogy which is present in winter season in Pristina Airport • In order to achieve this it is necessary to make a Master Plan for development of Gjakova Airport • Requested value for this project: 500,000.00 €

  21. Proposed project # 2 - Extension of runway - • Dimension of the existing runway is 1800 m x 30 m. • Only solution: extension of runway up to 2400m x 45m in order to fulfill ICAO standards • Goal: to have possibility to use this airport as alternative of Prishtina Airport for civilian flights. • Requested value for this project: 4,000,000.00 €
