  4. What is Azure Backup? • Azure Backup is the cloud-based solution that is reliable, secure, and cost- effective solutions to back up and restore your data in the Microsoft cloud. • Azure Backup provides recovery services built on a world-class infrastructure that is scalable, durable and highly available.

  5. Why use Azure Backup? Azure Backup, on the other hand, delivers all of the advantages of a powerful and affordable cloud backup solution. Some of the Key Benefits: • Automatic storage management. • Multiple storage options. • Unlimited data transfer. • Central management. • Data encryption. • Long-term retention.

  6. Applications & Workloads that can be backed up. • Files & Folders (Windows Server). • Files & Folders (Windows Client). • Hyper-V virtual machine (Windows). • Hyper-V virtual machine (Linux). • Microsoft SQL Server. • Microsoft SharePoint. • Microsoft Exchange. • Azure IaaS VMs (Windows). • Azure IaaS VMs (Linux).

  7. What is Vault Credential File? • The vault credentials file is a certificate generated by the portal for each backup vault. • The portal then uploads the public key to the Access Control Service (ACS). • This authenticates the machine to send backup data to an identified vault in the Azure Backup service. • The vault credential is used only during the registration workflow.

  8. What is Vault Credential File? • It is the user’s responsibility to ensure that the vault credentials file is not compromised. • However, as the backup data is encrypted using a passphrase which belongs to the customer, existing backup data cannot be compromised. • Vault credentials are set to expire in 48hrs. • We can download the Vault Credential File n number of times, but only the latest vault credential file will be applicable during the registration workflow.

  9. How Azure Backup different from Azure Site Recovery? • Many customers confuse backup recovery and disaster recovery. Both capture data and provide restore semantics, but their core value propositions are different. • Azure Backup backs up data on-premises and in the cloud. • Azure Site Recovery coordinates virtual-machine and physical-server replication, failover, and failback.

  10. Getting Started with Microsoft Azure Backup. • First we need to Set up a Backup Vault on Microsoft Azure. • Once after the Backup Vault is created, We need to download 2 Important files. 1. Vault Credentials File. 2. Azure Backup Agent Installer. The Agent Installer comes in 2 versions. • For Windows Server Essentials SKU. • For Windows Server and System Center Data Protection Manager. (For all other versions.)

  11. Getting Started with Microsoft Azure Backup. • Preparing your Production Server. • Installing the Azure Backup Agent • Register your Production Server with Azure. • Installing the Azure Backup Agent – Demo. • Select the Agent Install location. • Select the Cache Location. • Need to Configure the Proxy Settings, if you are behind the Proxy to connect to Internet. • After installing the Agent, Need to register the production server.

  12. Backup and Restore Data in your Production Server. • Backup Files and Folders. • Restoring the Data.

  13. Summary. • Benefits of Cloud Solutions. • What is Azure Backup? • Why use Azure Backup? • Applications & Workloads that can be backed up. • What is Vault Credential File? • How Azure Backup different from Azure Site Recovery? • Getting Started with Microsoft Azure Backup. • Backup and Restore Data in your Production Server.
