With so much conflicting information out there on nutrition, weight loss, diet, and how to achieve your ideal weight, keeping in mind a few habits in this area can go a long way in helping you get to your goals without having to feel like you are sacrificing anything.   2. 1. Get to know yourself. This should be your first step if your goal is to lose fat and achieve your ideal weight. Most people don't stop and think about the decisions they make when it comes to their diet. It's important to understand your own behavior, and to make the appropriate changes to improve yourself. • 2. Be honest. This has to do with self-acceptance. Are you in denial of your extra weight? If so, it will be impossible to lose it. Start with where you are today first, and don't be tempted to look for the "lose weight fast" gimmicks that rarely work long term. • 3. Turn off your TV. There are a couple of reasons for doing this. One is, without the distraction of TV, you will be more likely to move around and do other things. The second thing is there is so much misinformation on television about everything under the sun, including food, nutrition, and weight loss- that you will likely end up with either the wrong knowledge or many conflicting ideas in this realm.

  3. 4. Surround yourself with successful, positive people. This is important no matter what your goals are. This is not an easy step. If you are around people who don't care about themselves and their health, it will have a huge negative effect on you. • 5. Be consistent. Stop rewarding and punishing yourself. If you decide to walk for an extra 15 minutes one day, don't come back and indulge in a big piece of cheesecake that night as a reward! On the flip side, if you slip and have that cheesecake, don't beat yourself up and completely fall "off the wagon". You can easily get right back to where you were by making a good decision on your next meal. • 6. Eat often. A crucial mistake that many overweight people make is skipping meals and not eating when they are hungry. This inevitably leads to overeating and fat storage. I often will eat 6 times a day or more, snacking in between meals on some nuts or a balanced nutrition bar. • 7. Be a contrarian. The traditional breakfast (cereal and/or toast) is going to keep you fat.
