  2. ICAO The International Civil Aviation Organization, a UN Specialized Agency, is the global forum for civil aviation. ICAO works to achieve its vision of safe, secure and sustainable development of civil aviation through cooperation amongst its member States. To implement this vision, the Organization has established the following Strategic Objectives for the period 2005-2010: • Safety - Enhance global civil aviation safety • Security - Enhance global civil aviation security • Environmental Protection - Minimize the adverse effect of global civil aviation on the environment • Efficiency - Enhance the efficiency of aviation operations • Continuity - Maintain the continuity of aviation operations • Rule of Law - Strengthen law governing international civil aviation

  13. Code Sharing • An agreement between airlines to save operating cost and time. • Passengers could travel using different airlines with one ticket. • For example, a code sharing between MAS, Air India and KLM for Europe and Australasia route.

  14. Airline’s Management • Board of Directors – The chief governing body of a corporation. Elected by stakeholders. Comprises between 3-20 people. Chief policy-making body of a corporation. Responsible for the appointment of a president, secretary, treasurer, i.e. those who are directly responsible for the daily management of the corporation.

  15. Top Management • Top Management – The highest level of management in a corporation. Responsible to establish the objectives and procedures to meet the goals set by the Board of Directors. Often called, CeO or senior executives.

  16. Middle Management Responsible developing operational plans and procedures to implement the objectives conceived by the top management. Mainly consists of head of department or division.

  17. Operating Management • The lowest level of management. • Includes managers, assistant managers, general foremen.

  18. Line Departments • Flight Operations – develop flight-operation procedures and policies for safe, efficient of aircraft. Pilot training, flight simulator training, flight crew scheduling, flight planning. • Captain : is the commander of an airplane. He reports to Flight Officer. • First Officer : reports to the captain.

  19. Cont… • Engineering and Maintenance • Responsible of maintaining the aircraft. • Do various levels of maintenance, e.g. overnight maintenance and scheduled maintenance. • Non routine maintenance • Airframes Overhaul • Engine Overhaul
