  1. DEMONSTRATIONSinJoint Easy Wireless and MAGELLAN Workshop"Quality of Service and Multimedia Communications for Heterogeneous Networks" Marko Jurvansuu, PhD Group Manager, Wireless Services VTT Electronics, Oulu Marko.Jurvansuu@vtt.fi

  2. Timetable 12:00 Lunch 12.30   VTT QoS Demos • QoS-aware Gaming on Demand, Magellan, Ms. Tiia Sutinen • Phone-based Mobile Service Testing, Easy Wireless, Mr. Marko Palola • Application QoS Monitoring, Easy Wireless, Mr. Mikko Hanski 13.30   QoS Support in 4G Networks -- The Daidalos Case Study, Antonio Cuevas Casado, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain DEMOS ARE SHOWN IN THE NEARBY HALL 10 meters from lecture hall

  3. DEMO CATEGORIES NETWORK QoS MEASUREMENT APPLICATION ADAPTATION IMPROVED USEREXPERIENCE DEMO 1: QoS-aware Gaming on Demand EVALUATED USEREXPERIENCEFACTORS NETWORK QoS MEASUREMENT RESULTSANALYSIS DEMO 2: Phone-based Mobile Service Testing DEMO 3: Application QoS Monitoring

  4. DEMO 1: QoS-Aware Gaming-on-Demand • Real-time video coding adaptation method for game service • Network monitoring tool • Real-time video encoding parameter optimisation • Partners: G-Cluster, Maxisat

  5. GPRS EDGE 3G Internet DEMO 2: Phone Based Mobile Service Testing • VTT has developed a novel method for GPRS/EDGE/3G cellular network QoS testing • Real phones, networks and services under test - user experience is evaluated

  6. Operator A • Major differences in end-to-end round-trip-delay • GPRS operators • Phone models Operator B • Significant differences found in 3G network end-to-end goodput • First connection vs. next • Content size

  7. DEMO 3: Application QoS monitoring • Tool for monitoring network traffic in end-devices • Application independent - now VoIP is used • Service development for VoIP operators and video conferencing service providers • Development for mobile environment

  8. Workshop material will be available tomorrow in: http://ipv6.willab.fi/qos

  9. Network monitoring: • Measurements: throughput, RTT, RTT jitter, and packet loss • Thresholds for congestion detection • Rate adaptive video encoding: • Changeable parameters: frame rate and quantization • Stream’s throughput is adjusted to the available bandwidth • User-perceived video quality is taken into account in adaptation  The service will be available over heterogeneous networks and links with varying QoS, thus providing better end-user experience

  10. Application QoS monitoring • Measures one way delay, jitter, packet loss and throughput • Passive end-to-end method (possibility for multi-point measurements) • Captures packets from data link layer and records information on network traffic • Collected data is shared between monitoring ends to enable real-time monitoring • Clock synchronization by GPS • Application and transport layer independent • Development to mobile phone environment
