  2. symptoms • Shin splints are not a single medical condition. Symptoms would be aching or throbbing of the shin, usually occurs while walking or running.

  3. prevalence • Shin splints are very common injury, mostly for runners. About 13% of runners injuries are shin splints.

  4. Causes/transmitted • Shin splints are caused by a irritated or a swollen muscle in the shin. This is often cause by overusing the muscle. There is also stress fractures which are little hairline breaks in the lower part of the leg bones. Being flat footed is not helping either, it tends to stretch the muscle and the tendons.

  5. treatments • A neoprene sleeve helps warm the leg and icing the leg for 20-30 minutes about 4 times a day helps. Anti-inflammatory pain killers such as; ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirins all help shin splints stop the pain and the swelling. Using an arch support shoe also helps as well as range of motion exercises. Also if band enough surgery will take place.

  6. Interesting facts • To prevent shin splints, always warm up before working out, do not run on concrete, stop working when you feel pain in your shins and wear arch supported shoes.
