  3. History Cayuga Mine is the deepest and oldest of two room-and-pillar salt mines currently operating in the state of New York. Operations started in 1923 have expanded and continue today. The mine is capable of producing over 2.1 million metric tons per year.

Project Power Study Support the Mine Power Supply Analysis project with field verification of equipment specs and other tasks Use the results of the Power Supply study to project the power system needs for 5 and 10 years into the future Identify energy saving changes to the system that can be made or planned for with a written report

  5. Project Mine Cap lamp Identify possible alternatives to the Mine Site cap lamp, and field test the best alternative Convert the Mine Site cap lamps to a cordless system and adapt the lamps to daily production

  6. Project Ventilation on Demand Conduct basic research into the feasibility of “Ventilation on Demand” for a mining unit.
