  2. Australia has the highest number of endangered species.

  3. Endangered means that the species is seriously at risk of becoming extinct.

  4. Since 1600 A.D. more than 700 species have gone extinct world wide.

  5. There are a total of 427 endangered species just in Australia.

  6. In the past 200 hundred years about 17 different mammals have become extinct.

  7. Reasons for the Endangered species:

  8. 1) Animal Poaching

  9. Ivory Tusks

  10. Kangaroo Hide

  11. 2) Loss of Habitat

  12. 3) Predators killing them

  13. 4) Deforestation

  14. Great Barrier Reef Destruction

  15. 4 mammals, 6 birds, 2 reptiles, and 3 species of fish are listed as critically endangered

  16. Grey Nurse Shark

  17. Western Trout Minnow

  18. Spear tooth Shark

  19. Western Swamp Turtle

  20. Leatherback Turtle

  21. Scrubtit

  22. Spotted Quail-Thrush

  23. Yellow Chat

  24. Orange-bellied parrot(s)

  25. Round Island Petrel

  26. Herald Petrels

  27. Gilbert’s Potoroo

  28. Christmas Island Pipistrelle

  29. Bare-rumped Sheathtail Bat

  30. Southern Bent-wing Bat

  31. Baw Baw Frog

  32. Grassland Earless Dragon

  33. Blue Whale

  34. Climate change, habitat destruction, invasive weeds, and feral animals threaten 20% of Australia’s animal population with extinction.

  35. Chemicals such as pesticides or those that get into the water endanger animals within or around the water.

  36. Pollution is a dynamic part in plants and animals becoming endangered.
