  6. English Year 10 • English as a Second Language (0511) • Component 2 Reading and writing (Extended)Written paper. • 2hours • There are seven tasks in the paper, testing a range of reading and writing skills. • 70% of your whole grade.

English Year 10 • English as a Second Language (0511) • Component 4 Listening (Extended) Written paper • Approximately 45 minutes • Candidates listen to several short extracts and longer texts, and complete a range of task types, including short-answer questions, gap filling, matching, multiple choice and note taking. • 15% of your whole grade.

  18. English Year 11 – First Language 0522 • Paper 2 Reading Passages (Extended) • 2 hours • Candidates answer three questions on two passages. Passage A will be 650–750 words long and Passage B will be 550–650 words long. • 40% of the whole grade.

  19. English Year 11 – First Language 0522 • Paper 3 Directed Writing and Composition (Extended) • 2 hours • Candidates answer one question on a passage or passages totalling 650–750 words, and complete a composition task from a choice of four titles. • 40% of the whole grade.

  20. English Year 11 – First Language 0522 • Component 5 Speaking and Listening Test (Extended)Approx. 10–12 minutes • There is no question paper. Candidates conduct an individual task and take part in a discussion. • All candidates are recorded during the administration period. • This component is assessed by the teacher and moderated by Cambridge. • 20% of the whole grade.

S&L component 5 • Part 1 Individual Task (3–4 minutes) (10 marks) • The candidate talks for about 3–4 minutes on a single topic or theme which they have selected prior to the test. • Part 2 Discussion (6–7 minutes) (20 marks) • The individual task leads into a conversation with the teacher/examiner about the candidate’s chosen topic. • You will be marked on: • SL1 articulate experience and express what is thought, felt and imaginedSL2 present facts, ideas and opinions in a sustained, cohesive orderSL3 communicate clearly, fluently and purposefully as an individual and in dialogue with other speakers • SL4 use register appropriate to audience and context.
