  12. TOUs during PLATO 1.0What we left open • Optical Design Consolidation • see Magrinpresentation for details • Breadboard activities • see Farinato et al. presentation for details • Mechanical Design • Finite Element Model of the current mechanical design, including evaluation of the first eigenfrequency. • Interfaces • Verification of the interfaces of the finite element model with the lenses and their effects. • Filter design • Engineering consolidation TOU Meeting

  13. PLATO 2.0    TOU 2.0 TOU Meeting

  14. PLATO 2.0 timeline – Phase B2Jul 2014-Jan 2016 Premises • Phase B1 kick-off: Jul 2014 • Science Management Plan approval: Nov 2015 • Payload Development and Consolidation Review: March 2015 • SRR data package: 1 Nov 2015 • SRR: completed by Jan 2016 • Mission adoption & IPC approval: Feb-Mar 2016 TOU Meeting

  15. PLATO 2.0 timeline – Phase B2C/D/E1Q1 2016-Q1 2024 Premises • Industrial ITT for Phases B2/C/D/E1: Apr-Sep 2016 • Industrial Prime contractor kick-off: Oct 2016 • System PDR: by 2017 (tbc) • System CDR: by mid-2020 (tbc) • Payload CDR by 2018 (tbc) • Delivery of all Cameras: Q4 2021 • PLATO Launch: Q1 2024 TOU Meeting

  16. Phase B1: SRR Objectives 1/2 Premises • PLATO Phase B1 objective is the adoption of the PLATO mission by SPC in Feb-March 2016. • The PLATO System Requirements Review (SRR) to be completed by January 2016 is a major input to PLATO mission adoption. • The SRR is a formal review (category 1 i.e organized by ESA inspector general, D/SRE is the chairman). • The primary objective of the SRR is to review in detail: • The final payload and spacecraft system specifications, • The payload and spacecraft design definition, • The payload and spacecraft development and verification program, • Mission programmatic and cost. TOU Meeting

  17. Phase B1: SRR Objectives 2/2 Premises ?? • The camera development schedule is critical, and is actually defining the schedule critical path for the spacecraft. Hence: • The camera detailed design activities (including AIV plans and Ground System Equipment design) shall be completed before the SRR, • The critical bread-boarding activities (e.g. electronics Demonstration Models, optics) shall be initiated during phase B1, • Consortium input to the SRR shall demonstrate that the camera Engineering Model - which is fully representative of the flight model except for some electronics parts - will be completed by early 2017, • A detailed development plan of the payload shall demonstrate by SRR that: • serial production phase will start by mid-2017, • the first batch of 8 cameras will be delivered in November 2020, • the last batch of cameras will be delivered by November 2021. TOU Meeting

  18. TOUs during PLATO 2.0Phase B1 goal Our proposal: deliver all ready but undelivered documents: • Design: • Consolidated TOU Design Report (Optical Design, Mechanical Design, Thermal Analysis, Stray-light Analysis, Optical Material Analysis and Coating Design, ..) • Breadboard: • ConsolidatedBreadBoard AIV report • NEW: including a critical review of results and assessment of some open issues • CaF2 tests • AIV Design: • Consolidated TOU MAIT and Management Plan • ConsolidatedAlBeMet® Mechanical Structure Procurement Assessment Study • NEW: F-TOU Filters Design Procurement Assessment Study

  19. TOUs during PLATO 2.0Phase B2 goal • Design: • Engineering of TOU Design (Optical Design, Mechanical Design, Thermal Analysis, Stray-light Analysis, Optical Material Analysis and Coating Design, ..) • Breadboard  Prototype • Lens set like the FM one (change of 2 lenses and replacement of one lens previously accepted with no conformance issue because short in time • optical quality test (in term of PSF shape and dimension) on the whole FoV. • AIV Design: • Finalized TOU MAIT and Management Plan • FinalizedAlBeMet® Mechanical Structure Procurement Study • Consolidated: F-TOU Filters Design Procurement Assessment Study TOU Meeting

  20. When Industrial Prime Contractor? Our proposal: • During Phase B1, industry will deliver consult and services. • We’ll work to have ASI delivers a ITT for Phase B2/C contract, not later than March 2015. • Goal: • TOU Prime Contractor at work at beginning of Phase B2, but clearly identified before the SRR.
