  1. Can your students read fast enough? Alan Pollock, Information Commons, ADWC Email: apollock@hct.ac.ae

  2. The Spreeder speed reading application

  3. Speed reading company: Spin “The results of these tests showed that students who had speed reading training made significant advances over students without the training, with improvement in both speed and comprehension.” http://www.7speedreading.com/why-speed-reading-helps-esl-students

  4. Actual Research First of all, it is clear from the data that senior high school students can make significant gains in reading speed over their course of study. Second, the data further suggests that while reading speed increases significantly, comprehension levels do not improve. http://www.academia.edu/854668/The_Effect_of_Speed_Reading_Instruction_on_Japanese_High_School_Students_English_Reading_Comprehension_and_Vocabulary_Development

  5. Common sense I do think there is relevance in presenting learners with specific strategies, teaching learners how to use them appropriately, …. providing learners with opportunities to evaluate the effectiveness of each strategy, and then allowing learners to make their own decisions regarding the potential usefulness of the strategies in future learning situations. http://www.esltrail.com/2010/06/strategies-for-reading-faster.html

  6. Speed reading Find some appropriate material to use for speed reading (not to difficult a lexis for your students). Copy it. Write a few simple questions to focus students attention Go to Spreeder.com Click on Application Paste into text area Adjust settings Show to students on screen or Interactive White Board Teach students how to do this themselves – it will only be effective if practiced often.
