  3. 1. About Montag • Protagonist of Fahrenheit 451 • Fireman, who burns books and houses where they are kept illegally • 30 years old • Married with Mildred since 10 years

  4. 2. Development (2.1) • At the beginning Montag seems to be the quintessential fireman • Thinks himself to be happy • Likes his Work “Montag grinned the fierce grin of all men singed and driven back by flame” (Page 5) • Seems to follow the laws

  5. Development (2.2) • Friendship with Clarisse McClellan • Becomes discontent as he realizes that his life is empty and unfulfilling • He is disgusted with himself and does not know what to do • Realises the ignorance of his society

  6. Development (2.3) • Does not only want to watch  Thinks he has to act • Contacts Professor Faber • Reader gets to know that he is reading books • Wants to start book printing campaign • Goes back to get money for campaign

  7. Development (2.4) • Alarm who brings the firemen to Montags house • Situation escalates: He kills his chef • Flees from Mechanical hound • Gets out of the city • Hound does not find him, kills another one for entertaining the society

  8. Development (2.5) • Finds Granger & co • Together with them he looks forward to create a new & better society • They learn books by heart to transmit the contents of the books to the next generation

  9. 3. Reference to Nowadays • Sometimes entertainment is more important then politics • Many countries do not support freedom of opinion • Often the media is controlled by the government
