  3. Dean’s Message • Congratulations on this big STEP! You are about to begin a challenging and rewarding experience in your program, internship. For the next 15 weeks, you will immerse yourself in the big shoes of teachers as you continue to work towards the goals illustrated in the conceptual framework, the effective professional educator. • I am sure that you will represent yourself and the College well with pride and distinction. It is this commitment and reputation celebrated by Stillman College’s Division of Professional Education graduates.   5. STEP Stillman Teacher Education Program The STEP Model represents the relationship between the components of the unit’s teacher program and thereby demonstrates the principle of coherence among the STEP experiences. EFFECTIVE PROFESSIONAL EDUCATOR

  6. STEP Stillman Teacher Education Program The Outer Circle represents the background that pre-candidates bring with them to college.

  7. STEP Stillman Teacher Education Program The Inner Circle contains the preparation curriculum that adds new, in-depth learning to the existing background.

  8. STEP Stillman Teacher Education Program The Center Circle represents the culmination of the interrelated flows of knowledge and experience designed and focused to achieve “the effective professional educator.” EFFECTIVE PROFESSIONAL EDUCATOR

  11. Professionalism • Teacher candidates are to dress professionally. • They are NOT to wear: • hats • jeans • short skirts • tennis shoes • low necklines • tops that expose the midriff • male candidates are expected to wear a dress shirt (and tie if your school dress code requires).

  13. The Student Teacher's Responsibility • Adhere to all regulations outlined in the Student Teaching Handbook. • Be on time and be involved. • Act in a professional manner at all times. • Always be prepared(in advance) and meet all deadlines. • Dress in an appropriate manner.

  14. The Student Teacher's Responsibility(cont.) • You are guests of the school district. If you fail to meet your responsibilities the college supervisor or cooperating teacher has the right to withdraw you from the experience at any time.

  15. The Cooperating Teacher will: • Assist you with planning and implementation of your lessons. • Be present in the classroom at all times. • Give you feedback on your teaching.

  16. The College Supervisor will: • Visit the school four times during the experience. • Give you feedback on your progress. • Give you expectations to be met.

  17. Important Dates • You will follow the schedule of the public schools not the college. • Check the calendar or dates you were given.

  18. Work/School • You must devote full time to this experience. • You may not work or take other coursework during this experience.

  19. Compensation • Sorry you get none. • You are not allow to accept substitute pay while student teaching. You are a student of the college and we cannot accept liability if you are unsupervised at any time during the situation.

Evaluation • Portfolio • You will evaluated half way through the experience and at the end in writing. • Your College Supervisor will conference with you after each observation. • Your final evaluation for the first experience will be given to you by your college supervisor. • You will then meet with your supervisor for the next situation if different. • The same procedure will be followed for the second situation. • You will have a chance to evaluate your cooperating teacher and college supervisor

  21. Portfolio- You will compile a portfolio of your lessons that you can: • use appropriate technology to design instruction which supports the learning of your content • use knowledge of student diversity to design instruction to affirm and support full participation and continued learning by all students. This diversity includes gender, culture, ethnicity, socioeconomic background, language, special needs, and learning styles.

Portfolio- You will compile a portfolio of your lessons that you can: • design instruction that uses a variety of physical and visual materials for exploration and development of concepts in grade level. • design instruction that uses student groupings such as collaborative groups, cooperative learning, and peer teaching. • use a variety of methods to determine students' understanding of the content and to monitor your own teaching effectiveness.

  23. On Campus STEP Seminars • Attendance is mandatory for all seminars provided for interns. • Candidate has schedule of required attendance dates.
