  1. Coastal Erosion HOLDERNESS COAST Look at each images and state which of these cliffs is most prone to attack

  2. Barton on Sea

  3. Iceland

  4. Norfolk

  5. Cliffs of Moher Ireland

  6. Coastal Erosion Processes • The sea erodes on four different ways: • Corrasion or Abrasion - Waves pick sand and rock particles and crash against cliffs with a scouring and sandpaper effect. • Hydraulic Action - Waves are forced into cracks in cliff faces under extreme pressure. Trapped air causes large pieces of rock to break off. • Attrition - Rocks collide on the beach and are broken down into smaller fragments. • Corrosion - Rocks dissolve slowly as a result of sea life attaching themselves to cliffs and rocks. E.g. shells secrete acids

  7. The force of the waves pushes air into cracks in the rock The compressed air exerts enormous pressure at the tip of the crack. As the water falls back the air pressure is released and rock is pulled out from the crack further enlarging the hole.
