  2. Welcome Since we are the only school from Ioannina, we want to welcome you all to our beautiful city!

Our school opened for the first time in 1967 and worked as Ioannina High School for Girls. • From 1976 it became mixed (boys and girls), and was named as 2nd High School of Ioannina. • All these years our school had the same building with the 2nd General Lyceum of Ioannina, but in 1993 it was transferred to our building. • It was the 1998-1999 school year that it functioned as Cross-cultural School for the first time.   4. Our school is at Papandreou Street , near the lake Pamvotida. Location of our school View from the second floor of our school

  5. Our school has 14 classrooms: • 1 in the basement • 6 in the first floor • 7 in the second floor For the technology subject. One for the science subjects. One for the arts subjects (music, painting) and one as computers room. Our school inside

  6. It has also a big hall for the school events and celebrations. • There is a library that we share with the lyceum. From there we borrow literature and other books. • There is also a gym that is used from our gym teacher during the rainy days. • Each student has his own locker in the school. • There are offices for the teachers and the principal of the school. • Finally, there is a small school canteen where we buy food and drinks.

  7. Two of our classrooms have interactive boards. They were installed this year in two classrooms for the students of the second High school grade .

  8. Our High School is a small school but it has a big yard, where we play football, volleyball and basketball. • We also have a school site which is currently under construction. • http://2gym-ioann.ioa.sch.gr/

  9. In our school there are special classes called “reception classes”. They operate at three grades and levels for the students that have language difficulties. Our fellow pupils come from Greece, Albania, Bulgaria, China, Romania, Poland. Cross-cultural school • Having students from other countries • help us learn about their cultures • help us try to be like a big family.

  10. Our school, especially a student from the second grade got a distinction at a painting competition entitled “No Violence in sport fields”. Actually the student was awarded the prize by the President of the Greek Republic. School projects and activities

  11. Our school participated in a Francophonie competition organised by the French Institute. The subject was “ Solidarity of the planet”. The students drew a poster and wrote a poem using words for unity, solidarity and intercultural relations for the planet. They also used music and sang their poem. The students earned prizes.

  12. Edition of our school newspaper named “School of Open Horizons”. • The newspaper had articles for arts, sports, environmental and cultural issues. Most of the articles were written from students.

  13. Recycling scheme • In the school we have two recycling bins for recycling batteries and old cartridges. • Outside the school there is a blue bin for recycling paper. • Also, last year old electronic and electrical equipment was recycled in cooperation with a company from Athens. • We plan to put bins for… • recycling aluminium and plastic. • old clothes collection. These can then be given to people that do not have the ability to buy new clothes.

  14. Last year …… • On 21st of March our school participated in voluntary tree planting in the garden outside the Education Office of the Epirus District . • Some students participated in a European poster competition entitled “Draw us a right”. The students got awards. • A group of students participated in a project called “ECOMOBILITY”. It concerned the eco-transportation of the city residents and the presentation of students’ work took place in the Cultural Centre of the Town Hall, with great success. • Environmental project: “Fairytales and myths as cultural and diversity elements”. • The students created a poster with titles of world-known fairytales in German, French and Greek and a book for the history of fairytales.
