Element: A portion of your ePortfolio featuring one of your skills You may develop an element featuring you Eddy Lecture Attendance Artifact: Individual parts of an element Artifacts featured in your Eddy Lecture Attendance element Scanned brochure Scanned Certificate of Attendance URL to Eddy Lecture information Terminology

  5. To get to Material Manager: • Log into your Portfolio • UMD’s homepage • Current Students • Portfolio • Select the “Enter” function • Click on “Material Manager” the lower right hand corner of your screen

Material Manager • Material manager manages all the artifacts contained in your ePortfolio • From material manager you can: • Upload files • Add URLs • Attach and detach materials to elements • View information you’ve added to your Portfolio • Delete information you’ve added to your Portfolio • Bottom line: It gets anything outside of Portfolio into Portfolio & vice versa

  7. Material Manager • Once your artifact is in your Material Manager: • You can attach it to several elements at once OR • You can simply store it in your Material Manager attach it at a later time

  10. Select Material Manager Browse for target file Select upload Upload File

  11. The file is now in your Material Manager

  12. Attaching to an existing Element • You may now attach your uploaded information to an existing element • To do so, click on “attach”

  13. Then select the element of your choice Click on “save” at bottom of screen Attaching to an existing Element

  14. Attaching • If you don’t have an existing element to attach your material to: • You can create one from the Material Manager page! • Just click on “attach”

  15. Attaching to a Newly Created Element • Scroll to bottom of page • Click on “create” • You are directed to this screen which explains the step-by-step creation of a new element • Remember to click on “save” when you’re done!

Material Manager • All items in your Material Manager are alphabetically sorted • They are named as they appear at the file source • Before you upload, make sure the file name makes sense to you! • Once added to material manager, there is no direct way to rename a file • You’ll need to delete the file, rename it at the source, and upload it once again

  17. Delete To delete, just select the item you want to permanently delete from your Portfolio Click on delete Other Material Manager Functions

  18. View Just click on the name of the item you wish to view Other Material Manager Functions

  19. Detach Click on “attach” Next screen will show where item is currently attached Select item you wish to detach Click “save” Other Material Manager Functions

Uploading with Material Manager Recap • Material Manager gets information in and out of your Portfolio • Once information is added, it must be attached to an element before it can be shared • To attach to an element, click on “attach” • Then, either attach it to an existing element of your choice, or click on “create” to make a new element

  21. Uploading with Material Manager Recap • Chose file names that make sense to you • Don’t include spaces • Don’t include special characters • - / ] } and so on…

Using your ePortfolio for Storage All CSD Lab Computers are cleared daily • To use your ePortfolio to store a document: • Save your document to the desk top. • Upload the document as described earlier. • Delete the document from the desk top • To retrieve your document later • Go to your Material Manager • Click on the document you want to retrieve

  24. Choose a document appropriate to your level Bring it to class on a disk or other electronic storage device Upload this document to your ePortfolio 8 Students with Dr Mizuko- You’re off to Boh H 236 The remainder with Jolene- We’re off to SCC 42 Assignment 1
