  2. Presentation Development • Plan – keep it simple • Text – clear, it is notes, not a story, use key-words • Create – Pictures that help explain • Review – Edit and Enhance • Rehearse, and rehearse – check for timing, remember audiences get tired

  3. Types of Presentations • Kiosk show – automatically moves on • Kiosk show – reader moves each slide on as ready • Meeting – with a presenter using a Projector • Meeting – using overheads • Black and White Overheads • Colour Overheads

  4. PowerPoint Views • Outline – text only from a word document • Normal Slides – able to create new, edit • Slide Sorter – thumbnails of all slides • Notes Pages – provide speaker notes • Slide Show – view of what the audience actually sees as the show progresses

  5. Editing Features • Changing Fonts – not too many • Changing Bullet style • WordArt for a short special heading • Designs • various colour schemes supplied • Additional colour schemes available • Footer for Slides • Header & Footer for Handouts

  6. Adding Objects • Tables – tabulate lists, numeric data • Charts – display numeric data • SmartArt – diagrams • Graphics – ClipArt, Photos, Videos • Cropping • Recolour pictures

  8. What Makes a Good PowerPoint? • Space – not all cluttered • Fonts used – easy to read • Quantity of Text – 6 x 6 rule • Colour – • background – contrast but not overpowering • colour of text – easily read • Message has relevance to the audience

Doing the Presentation • Know your topic • Don’t memorise • Rehearse – able to navigate presentation easily & well • Pace • Know the location • Know the equipment • Copy presentation to computers hard disk • Check for a remote control to use • Take care with a laser pointer • Face your audience • Back-up plan
