  1. Forces

  2. Force = A push or a pull Push PuLL

  3. What things produce forces? PUSH PULL PUSH PULL PUSH

  4. Vector = A line indicating the strength and direction of a force Strong force upwards Weak force downwards Weak force to the left Strong force to the right

  5. More than one force can be acting on an object at once. Air resistance Gravity Unbalanced forces lead to a change in velocity

  6. Speed = rate of movement (mph, ft/sec)Velocity = speed and direction Speed 200 kilometers per hour Velocity 200 kilometers per hour to the west

  7. Anytime you see a change in velocity (speed and/or direction) then there are unbalanced forces at work…

  8. Air resistance Gravity

  9. Faster Slower

  10. Friction Friction = A force between surfaces in the opposite direction of motion.

  11. When forces are balanced, there is no change in velocity Normal force of beam Gravity

  12. Balanced forces are equal and opposite Team 2 Team 1 Result… No change in velocity!

  13. In space…

  14. Measuring Force • Forces are measured in Newtons (N) • Force can be calculated with the following formula: F=ma Force = (mass)(acceleration) • Acceleration is the rate of change in velocity

  15. Important Formulas for Your Notebook
