  8. Who Should Take the STAR Writing Test? • ALL Grade 4 & 7 students except: • Students taking the CAPA • Students exemptby parent or guardian Parent exemption request in BLM Assessment Services, SDUSD

  9. Which Writing Test Do Students Take? Grades 4 & 7 students taking the multiple-choice ELA California Standards Test ELA CST Grades 4 & 7 students taking the multiple-choice ELA California Modified Assessment ELA CMA California Writing Standards Test CST Writing California Modified Writing Standards Test CMA Writing Assessment Services, SDUSD

Who is Eligible to take the CMA? • Has an IEP that includes grade level CA content standards-based goals • Previous STAR Scores • Score of below basic or far below basic on the CST • Score of proficient or advanced on CAPA (level 2-5) for two years • Has access to grade level curriculum, instruction, and materials with special ed. support Page 74 in manual Assessment Services, SDUSD

CMA Test Takers • Coordinate with your special education staff • Review rosters of “designated CMA test-takers” • Make sure students taking the CMA ELA have CMA indicated in their IEPs • Any new students that have been identified for taking the CMA ELA, must be hand-grid Rosters in RED envelope Assessment Services, SDUSD

Preparing Accommodations, Modifications, and Variations • Review IEP and 504 Plans for accommodations/modifications that must be made available to students • Prepare variations that will be used by English learners during testing • Only hand-grid AFTER testing if student actually used the variation, accommodation, or modification Pages 86-90 & 118-119 in manual See Handout Assessment Services, SDUSD

  14. Students with a Broken Arm/Hand Only May Use Accommodations Indicated in their 504 or IEP • The following accommodations require a 504 or IEP: • Using a scribe • Using a computer • Using a speech-to-text convertor Page 54 in Manual

  15. Schedule and Timing • Will be administered on March 5thwith make-ups on March 6th • Is approximately 60 minutes; allow for 75 minutes of total administration time Assessment Services, SDUSD

Preparing Test Environment • Free from noise & interruptions • Good lighting & ventilation • Instructional information on bulletin boards, whiteboards, or charts must be removed • Make arrangements for students w/IEPs & 504s • Prepare separate location for CMA test-takers Assessment Services, SDUSD

Required Training Staff • Ensure Consistency • Read the Directions for Administration (DFA) verbatim • Ensure Test Security • Monitor students • Collect test booklets and answer docs before dismissing students • Report any testing irregularities or incidents IMMEDIATELY • Distribute test materials to correct students Assessment Services, SDUSD

Preparing & Distributing Materials • Materials provided by school • No. 2 pencils • “Testing- Do Not Disturb” signs • “No Unauthorized Electronic Devices” signs • Highlighters may be used (CAUTION) • Do not distribute writing prompt and response booklets before the day of the test • Check materials out – see Inventory Control Form BLM BLM NO SCRATCH PAPER!!!!
