  2. NO, LORD How often do we say it? A contradiction in terms Would you disobey the Queen? Why disobey God then – He always wins in the end

  3. NO, LORD Disobedience is a sin The Lord wants obedient servants No matter how big or small the job may be Obedience can become a habit – so can disobedience

  4. DISOBEDIENCE AND REBELLION What’s the difference? Disobedience – we don’t break the relationship Rebellion is a final NO – breaking the relationship

  5. DISOBEDIENCE AND REBELLION Rebellion – a serious sin Pride – usurping God’s place Or usurping the place of God’s appointed leaders But a need for great caution

  6. DISOBEDIENCE AND REBELLION Human leaders are sinners – can go astray Only follow if leading in God’s way to God’s plan Reflecting Jesus – under his authority And the authority of God’s word – The Bible

  7. NO ONE IS IMMUNE Not leaders – nor those closest to God Aaron and Miriam – Numbers 12 Oppose Moses and set themselves up as rivals But the Lord acts to squash the rebellion

  8. YOU DON’T HAVE TO JOIN IN When others are in rebellion you can stand out and stand firm Numbers 13 v 30 and Numbers 14 v 6-9 The exploration of the Promised Land

  9. YOU DON’T HAVE TO JOIN IN 12 Israelite leaders sent to explore They follow their instructions But report back to say they can’t do what God has ordered

  10. YOU DON’T HAVE TO JOIN IN Only Caleb and Joshua stand firm Stand firm for the Lord – we can do it Whatever the opposition Caleb the dogged dog The foreigner who put the Israelites to shame

  11. OBEDIENCE IS REWARDED Faithful obedience when the going gets tough But we may have to wait for our reward Sometimes till we get to Heaven Caleb waited 45 years – in hope!

  12. BAD LEADERS LEAD ASTRAY Numbers 14 v 1-14 The Israelites panic v 1 Lose confidence in the Lord v 3 Want to go back to being slaves v 4 Joshua & Caleb can’t make them see sense v 6 - 9 How’s our leadership?

  13. REBELLION IS NOT WORTH IT Numbers 14 v 10-38 The Lord intervenes - in anger V 10 Ready to destroy Israel and start again v 11 and 12 Moses’ plea for mercy v 13-20 The Lord forgives - but

  14. REBELLION IS NOT WORTH IT Numbers 14 v 11-38 Conquest of Promised Land delayed by 40 years V 33 & 34 None of rebels will reach Promised Land v 22 & 23 But will be desert nomads v 26 & 32-33 God’s Blessings withdrawn v 34-35

  15. CAN REPENTANCE COME TOO LATE? Numbers 14 v 39-45 Israelites belatedly offer to obey V 39-40 But it’s too late v 41-43 Sin – even forgiven sin has continuing consequences And we miss out on God’s blessings v 34-35

  16. If the Lord is no longer with us we fail v 44 - 45
