  2. Egypt is Reunited Thebes replaced Memphis and the 12th dynasty was founded The descendants of the two Theban pharaohs would rule over Egypt until the Middle Kingdom ended They needed a strong government

  3. A Greater Sharing of the Wealth With more wealth, Egypt had more scribes, traders, and craftsmen In the middle kingdom, craftsmen made the most beautiful jewelry ever seen before Literature expanded its boundaries and started a new Golden Age.

  4. The Conquest of Nubia In the 12th dynasty Senwosnet was a great pharaoh Senwosnet built a town that was protected against enemies on the Nubian border From this town his army could oversee treating and gold mining He built drawbridges around his forts

  5. The Search for New Markets Many more products were in the market because they had more surplus stuff Many traders arrived to the Red Sea to trade products and food They were many spices along with frankincense and myrrh Egyptians also made trading routes with the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete

  6. The Draining of the Fayum Egyptian engineers started building a large irrigation project in the area of Fayum The project drained about 10,000 acres of land The runoff water created a new lake, connected to the Nile by a canal

  7. Invasion by the Hyksos The invasion of the nomads from Palestine broke the peace of the middle kingdom The Hyksos had bronze weapons which made it easy to defeat the Egyptians

Contributions of the conquerors Hyksos introduced the upright loom which was a device which was to improve the woven linen They introduced instruments like the lute the lyre the oboe and the tambourine They also brought in cattle and the potters wheel They taught how to melt copper and tin to make bronze
