Goals of the lesson • Demonstrate the motor skill of throwing using all of the critical elements: pointsnon-throwing shoulder toward target,pulls throwing hand way back, steps forward with opposite foot, shifts weight from back to front,and points finger toward intended target • Compare the four forces of an airplane to the forces of throwing an object: lift, drag, thrust and gravity • The lesson is one of the most challenging to students and includes all of the basic sports and playground games

Knowledge/skill concept theme • Concept –Force as it relates to the overhand throw and flight of an airplane • This is appropriate for students with different developmental levels because: • Our school is in a military environment • We have parents in the military • We have the air show every year

  4. How does this lesson fit with what comes before and after the unit? • Before – Give definition of force, practice types of forces,explain the four forces of flight • After – Throw for distance & accuracy,role play,throwing game,journal entry

  5. Instructional Materials • Guided questions – help students stay on target with the questions • Numbered beanbags – random way to call on students • Fleece balls- Everyone has the same type of objects • Skeleton- show the various parts of the body

  6. Fairness-Equity • Guided questions- everyone will perform task at the same time • Partner throw-creates peer assistance and assessment • Observational checklist
