A person might make up a poem while doing chores, or for a relationship. But political leaders will also hire poets to create poems for campaigns and political unrest was centered around the poet Mohamed Ibrahim Warsame 'Hadrawi': the Somali Shakespeare Many political activists are also poets

This book illustrates the central role poety plays in many somalis lifes. Safie the protagonist is a teenage girl who is dealing wit changes in her family when her father who was belived to be dead returns to the family. This book shows how how Safie uses her poery to express herself and her confusion when dealing with changes in her family. It also has examples of poems written by famous somali poets. This is also a valuable resource for people who are unfamiliar with Islamic traditions this book can serve as a powerful tool to make the traditions understandable and relate-able.
