Required Courses • PA 5021 Economics for Policy Analysis and Planning I (fall, yr 1) 3 credits • PA 5711 Science and Technology Policy (fall, yr 1) 3 credits • PA 5002 Policy Analysis (spring, yr 1) 1.5 credits • PA 57xx Survey of Current Issues in STEP (spring, yr 1)1.5 credits(in development) • PA 5790Topics: Science of Science Policy (spring, yr 1)1.5credits (in development) • PA 5012 The Politics of Public Affairs (fall, yr 2) 3 credits • PA 5722 Environmental and Resource Economics Policy (fall, yr 2) 3 credits • Substitutions allowed with approval of faculty adviser: ApEc 5721 Economics of Science & Technology Policy or ESPM 5261 Economics & Natural Resource Management • PA 5031*Empirical Analysis I (fall, yr 1) 0* • A student who has not taken prior coursework in statistics must satisfy the adviser that he/she has adequate preparation in statistics. If not, student must take Empirical Analysis I (PA 5031), which does not count toward fulfilling the 40-credit requirement.

  5. Required Courses (continued)At least one of these policy areas: • PA 5790: Water Policy (spring, either year) • PA 5721: Energy Policy (fall, either year) • PA 8790: Nanotechnology Policy (fall, either year) • PA 8790: Risk Analysis and Policy (spring, either year; next offered 2012)

  6. Paper Requirements (two options) • Plan B Paper (2nd year) Options for Plan B (3 credits): • Working Group (PA 8082) • Capstone Workshop (PA 8081) • Independent Study (PA 8991) • Other specific course (by permission only) or • Plan A Thesis (2nd year) • PA 8777: Thesis Credits: Master’s (10 credits; can be divided over more than one semester)
