  4. FOQA Organization • FOQA Analyst Training • FOQA analysts perform duty after completing 4 weeks of FOQA job training. In performing FOQA data analysis, FOQA analysts prioritize maintaining security of flight data and flight crews’ identification. • AGS (Analysis Ground Station) Training : Basic Course, Advanced Course • Boeing Performance Engineer Training Course • FDM (Flight Data Monitoring) and FOQA (Flight Operational Quality Assurance) in Commercial Aviation

  10. FOQA Analysis • Unstabilized Approach Rate Trend since 2001 (per 10000 flights)

  11. FOQA Analysis • FOQA Exceedance Trend since 2001 (per 10000 flights)

  12. FOQA Analysis • AGS (Analysis Ground Station) : Snapshot • Korean Air FOQA Analysis tool embed a complete open programming language for the definition of the event sets and snapshots. • The snapshot function in the tool is extremely flexible and adaptable to many scenarios. (See next slides) • It also has the ability to automatically store the snapshots in the database for trend monitoring. • Increase quality of flight safety with using this function for finding potential hazard. <Detects required data at specific point for every individual flights> Touchdown point from End of Runway (Feet)

  13. FOQA Analysis • SMS-FOQA Meeting : Monitor 71 events • Objective : Continuously improving our proactive approach to safety management • Participants : Corporate Safety, Flight Operations • Event Status Table - Indicates the occurrence rate for the last quarter all event sets and all fleets respectively - Which fleet has Positive trends,Negative trends, Possible seasonal trends or Steady trends

  14. FOQA Analysis • Trend Chart <Positive Trends/Negative Trends> <Possible Seasonal Trends> < Steady Trends > < Anomalies >

  15. FOQA Analysis • Special Analysis <Specific Event> <Specific Airport> <Flight Operation> <Environmental Effects >

  16. FOQA Analysis – Special Item Mmo /Vmo Exceedance

  17. How much Occur? (772 Vs 77W) • Mmo Exceedance (01JAN13 - 31MAR14) • B777-200ER Vs B777-300ER

  18. How much Occur? (Vs Other Fleets) • B777 Mmo Exceedance Vs B744 / B737 / A330 • Analysis Duration: 01JAN13 - 31MAR14

  19. When it Occurs ? (Flight Phase) • Analysis Duration: 01 JAN 13 - 31 MAR 14 (92%)

  20. When it Occurs? (Seasonal) • Analysis Duration: 01 JAN 13 - 31 DEC 13 Total 86

  21. Where it Occurs? • Analysis Duration: 01JAN13 - 31MAR14 • MainlyJapan, PACOT, Middle East

  22. Where it Occurs? • Analysis Duration: 01JAN13 - 31MAR14 • Japan

  23. Where it Occurs? • Analysis Duration: 01JAN13 - 31MAR14 • PACOT

  24. Where it Occurs? • Analysis Duration: 01JAN13 - 31MAR14 • Eastern Route for USA: Rocky Mts Denver DFW

  25. Where it Occurs? • Analysis Duration: 01JAN13 - 31MAR14 • Middle East (mainly occurred in winter season)

  26. Where it Occurs? • Analysis Duration: 01JAN13 - 31MAR14 • Middle East (DXB) Urumqi Kunlun Mts IST / TLV Hotan Islamabad Himalayan Mts DXB

  27. Where it Occurs? • Analysis Duration: 01JAN13 - 31MAR14 • Middle East (IST/ TLV) Caucasus Mts IST / TLV Yerevan Baku CaspianSea

  28. Where it Occurs? • Analysis Duration: 01JAN13 - 31MAR14 • Europe Route Ural Mts Irkutsk Mongolia

  29. WhatCauses Overspeed ? • High Altitude Wave Activity • Wind Shear Encounter

  30. Crew Response (S/B Usage)

  31. Why Specifically B777? Why 777-200? • WhyB777 ? • Over speed Protection Function - Protect Mmo + M0.03 - Not Protect Mmo • WhyB777-200ER ? • SmallMargintoMmo : In case of ECON M0.84, Set Margin to M0.03 • Lack of Positive SpeedandThrust Control • Late Usage of Speedbrake

  32. OAL Case • OAL’s Action : Reduce to M0.81 as Required 59%Down

  33. Conclusion (Mmo) • Keep plane below Mmo, Margin is for Inspection • Pay attention : B777-200 operate at PACOT and ME • Expect Overspeed when Tailwind decrease • Control Airspeedand Thrust Positively • Use Speedbrake before Overspeed

  34. NextSteps • Establish Practical Objective : Reduce 50% in year 25% in 2 years • Monitor Positive SPD & Thrust Control when Overspeed • Monitor the Change of Area where Overspeed Happens • Log and Enhance Maintenance Activity • Study Influence of Hi-Altitude Wave Activity

  35. ImprovedTrend after review • B777 Speed Exceedance MMO
