  1. Organizational Change Through Leadership Development

  2. Characteristics of New World Leadership Technology Technology defines the next generation of organization architectures and leadership opportunities Organizations shifted from vertically structured hierarchies to globally distributed, networked organization models

  3. Leadership & Technology • What are the next trends and their implications for leaders and organizations? • Leaders rely on real-time sense making, pattern recognition and framing skills to create context for others

  4. Need for wisdom Leadership • Wisdom is the “deep understanding and sound judgment” that draws from a level of personal and organizational values, and cultural broad-mindedness. • It requires level of wisdom to proactively address pressing issues that characterize our world in the 21st century

  5. Knowledge and Information • Knowledge is a new type of resource, more like a flame than an object. • With a flame, we can light a thousand candles so they all have flames, including the original. • In the same way, knowledge is expandable, transportable, and shareable

  6. Complexity Vs Complication • In complexity, there's probably a lot going on, like cause and effect stuff, and lots of relevant details • In complication, there's always a lot going on, and lots of bits that might or might not connect to other bits, be connected at sometimes • There may be cause and effect, but not sure which is which; lots of details, but they're hard to pin down

  7. Time versus Real Time • Each of us has such a bank. Its name is TIME • Every morning, it credits us with 86,400 seconds • Every night it writes off, as lost, whatever of this we have failed to invest to good purpose • It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft • Each day it opens a new account for us • If we fail to use the day’s deposits, the loss is ours.

  8. Time Vs Real Time • No drawing against “tomorrow” • Clock is running • Make the most of today • To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade • To realize value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth to a pre-mature baby • To realize value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper

  9. Time Vs Real Time • To realize value of ONE HOUR, ask lovers who are waiting to meet • To realize value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who missed the train • To realize value of ONE SECOND, ask a person who just avoided an accident • To realize value of ONE MILLI -SECOND, ask person who won a silver medal in Olympics • Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is mystery, Today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present

  10. Data Vs Information • Data is raw material & unorganized facts that need to be processed • When data are processed, organized, structured or presented in a given context so as to make them useful, they are called Information

  11. Market Place & Market Space • Assessing the impact of external events on our market space • Market place encompasses market space as well as broader forces – such as adjacent industries, political events, world issues, and broader economic climate

  12. Linkages & Connectivity • Linkages  is a technique for depicting complex systems of relationships between multiple variables • This is useful for example if need to see how human capital management relates to various dimensions of business performance

  13. Speed and Acceleration • The leader should set the tone • Speed of the Leader is Speed of the Team • Don’t expect your team to give or fight or sacrifice or Love or Forgive or Stay focused more than you are

  14. Convergence • Convergence is the tendency for different systems to evolve towards performing similar tasks • Charismatic leadership • Leading and not managing • A Leader's Mood: The Dimmer Switch of Performance

  15. Why organizational Change? • Wealth or Worth • Wealth is accumulation of material goods and money, but having wealth (which has a monetary "worth") doesn't mean that the person with the wealth has worth
