  3. The UHS Day • Everyone starts at 8:00 a.m. • Closed lunch hour and study support for all 9th and 10th graders • Choice 8 period day encouraged for all students • Study halls only for seniors • Students run on individual schedules, not teams

  4. Study Support: All 9th and 10th graders have 25 minutes of this classroom time before or after their lunch. Small groups of 12 - 18 students. Academic help is available. Teams: All 9th and 10th graders are on a team. These numbered teams (no names) are actually teams of teachers with "in common" students. Teams serve as both support and "connection" for students. Study Support and Teams

  5. Required for many 9th - 11th graders but an option for all. Credited/graded class. 25 minutes of support for the student's math class 25 minutes of support for English or other subjects Students receiving D or F in Math or English at the marking periods may be moved out of an elective and into ALS during the semester. ALS: Academic Learning Support

Graduation Requirements2012 - 2015 • Curriculum Required Semesters • Academic Learning Support 0-6 • Composition 9 2 • World Studies – Social Science 2 • World Studies – English 2 • American Studies – Social Science 2 • American Studies – English 2 • Senior English 2 • American Government 1 • Consumer Education 1 • Mathematics 6 • Science 4 (2 physical science/2 life science) • Health 1 (replaces 1 semester of PE) • Art/Music/Foreign Language 2 or Vocational Education • Physical Education 7 (1 each semester enrolled)

  7. New Courses at UHS • Intro. To Agriculture(2 semesters) • Supervised Agricultural Experience I & II(1 or 2 semesters) • Sports and Entertainment Marketing(1 semester) • Social Justice (1 semester) • Advanced Composition (Parkland Dual Credit @UHS)(2 semesters)

CUScholars • CUScholars is an initiative of the Champaign-Urbana Community Schools Foundation. • Prepares students for success in college or workplace by requiring higher than minimum standards. • 4 years of math • 3rd year of science • 2 years of the same foreign language • Maintain an average of “C” or above • Demonstrate a 95% overall attendance rate • Have no out-of-school suspensions

  9. English Requirements • 2 semesters of Composition 9 (9th) • 2 semesters of World Studies –English (10th) • 2 semesters of American Studies –English (11th) • 2 semesters of English (12th)

  11. Mathematics Requirements The following chart reflects the general course sequence. It is highly recommended that the student take the Summer Bridge prior to any move to an AP Prep course. *=weighted course • 6 semesters

  13. Science Requirements • 2 semesters of life science (Biology or *AP Prep Biology) • 2 semesters of physical science (Integrated Physical Science or *AP Prep Chemistry)

Social Science Requirements • 2 semesters of World Studies-SS (10th) • 2 semesters of American Studies-SS (11th) or AP U.S. History (11th or 12th) • 1 semester of American Government (9, 10, 11, or 12th) The following chart reflects the course sequence for required courses. American Government is required but does not have a designated year of enrollment.

Requirements • PE is required every semester except for the semester Health is taken. • 9th grade = 1 semester of Physical Education 9#; 1 semester of Health • 10th grade = 1 semester of PE 10 w/ Driver Ed; 1 semester PE 10 • 11th grade = 2 semesters: Physical Education 11-12 or Personal Fitness • 12th grade = 2 semesters: Physical Education 11-12 or Personal Fitness • Option: Personal Fitness via Strength & Conditioning • May be taken in place of PE 9, 10, or 11-12 • May be repeated #School PE uniform required

Special Education/Support Services • Co-Taught Courses: Taught in the regular ed classroom with a special education teacher who assists with any needed academic or behavioral accommodations. • Instructional Courses: Taught by special education teachers, these courses are aligned to meet core requirements and some electives.

Special Education/Support Services • Educational Support Class: This is a combination of teaching students better study skills and assisting them with daily work from classes. • The Learning Center: Available each period as a “drop in” room for students who receive special education services and need assistance with tests and/or coursework during the the time they are scheduled in general education class.

Registration Info - 9th - 11th • Teachers will give recommendations for core course selections. • Registration is done in small group settings. • Students have a copy of their choices for parent review. • Current UHS students will register throughout February. • Student choices can be adjusted even after registration. • A printout of the student's course selections is mailed home in late spring. • Phone or email your child's UHS counselor with any questions. Registration Info - 8th Graders • Teachers will give recommendations for core course selections. • Current UMS 8th graders will register at UMS during the regular school day on Feb. 8 and 9. • Registration is done in group settings. • Students have a copy of their choices for parent review. • Student choices can be adjusted even after registration. • A printout of the student's course selections is mailed home in late spring. • Students from private middle schools need to call the Counseling Office for a registration appointment.
