  2. Recrystallization of para-dibromobenzene • Remove Insoluble Impurities • Remove Soluble Impurities • Isolate Solid by Removing Trace Amounts of Solvent Solvent; Dissolve solid when hot, but solid will recrystallize/solidify in cold solvent.

  3. Remove Insoluble Impurities 1. Heat solid in minimum amount of warm solvent. Use a reflux condenser so solvent won’t evaporate. 2. Add activated charcoal to remove trace impurities. 3. Filter quicklywhile warm

  4. Remove Soluble Impurities • Slowly cool solution to room temperature to allow solid to recrystallize. • Put in refrigerator to make sure maximum amount of solid has recrystallized. • Filter to remove soluble impurities.

  5. Isolate Solid by Removing Trace Amounts of Solvent • Vacuum Filtration
