  4. Benefits for mentors • I gain a lot of energy by sharing knowledge on how it is in industry. I believe it is important to build bridges between academia and industry through research, master thesis, cases in courses and now also through mentorship. I see this as a win-win activity. • Intellectual stimulation • To meet another generation • It felt good! • Gaining insight into the conditions for youngacademics (important for my own leadership) • Opportunity to reflect on and getperspective on my own career and my own challenges (Sammanfattning av mentorsutvärdering PLUME och luPOD)

  5. Benefit for PhD students? • My meetings with my mentor has enabled me to have a clearer picture of possible career paths. I have started to make plans for life after graduation • A door to new arenas and new acquaintances • Peace of mind, inspiration and work satisfaction • To ventilate my experiences and thoughts • A sense of belonging to something larger • Help to prioritize • Help with practical matters in career planning • An impartial assistance in an emergency and the precarious situation • It has been nice (Sammanfattning av PLUME and luPODs utvärdering)

  6. The roleof the PhD student (mentee): To be proactive! • Think about your future, i.e. your objectives/goals in the short and long term • Formulate goals with your mentor • To receive feedback (and give!) • Reflect • Have an open attitude to "the journey"

  7. Howto start….? • Tell each other about your histories, experiences • Talk about your motivation and goals with the meetings, what do you expect from each other?

  8. The agreement • Not mandatory, can be interrupted • Start with the view of your • relationship (intimacy / trust) • Agree on approach, time, location • Discuss expectations on the mentee/mentor role • Write down your goals and the expected impacts and issues / themes / what you want help with

  9. Someadvice: • How often do we meet? Approximately ?times, more frequent in early part of the programme • Change meeting place: Work place, Coffee shop, office?? • Planning for yourself: What do you want? – Describe this to your mentor • Be honest - both about your strengths and weaknesses • Print and save short notes from mentor meetings ("log") • Plan and allocate time for self-reflection before / after meetings with your mentor

  10. Pittfalls • Time – plan ahead! • Late start • Summer brake • Honesty / transparency • Nepotism/favoritism • Degree of trust / confidence
