Crossplay & Counterfeit Law (Federal Law & Regulations Link) Federal Law: • The US Constitution Article 1, Section 8 gives congress exclusive authority to coin and regulate money… vested in the US Mint. • The US Mint has defined the physical and usage limits for tokens, prohibiting crossplay of tokens with other coins or tokens. • 18 USC – 336/491provides penalties for producing tokens intended for use in other establishments. • The Law: When a token is accepted in another establishment for face value, then it has become money… and penalties may apply. • The US Mint requires casinos to a) sell only their own tokens to customers, and b) use only their own tokens on table games.

  8. Nickel-Silver tokens in adjacent casinos. Casinos bear cost of backroom sorting, armored truck redistribution. US nickels & Canadian 1985-1999 nickels. Canadian nickels could play for $.70 cents on the dollar in the US. The 2 Euro and the Thai 10 Bhat. The Thai 10 Bhat coin is worth about 0.16 Euros. $5 Canadian and $1 US 1.465” tokens. $1 US tokens in Canada are worth about $1.4 in their $5 slots. Casino, arcade, and carwash tokens.   9. $1 & $5 Nickel-Silver slugged with lead. Lead weights from car tires are melted and poured into disk molds. HS-1 alloy and cut-penny lead slugs. Changing the conductivity with HS-1 didn’t stop them very long. Shaved coins fool hopper credit sensor. Trim only .030” from the diameter and slam it in an old comparator. $2 US tokens played in $1 machines. Same as coin shaving… but may be legal… hoppers still empty. Lost wax process cast tokens.   12.  The X-Mark has an array of inclined reflective facets minted in a band about the periphery of the token. 75° 60° 120° 30° 142°  The X-Mark is recessed below the surface of protective “Guard Bands” on each side of the X-Mark annular band. X-Mark Optical Codes  Many different X-Mark Codes can be made by having different rotational angles of the facet faces.

LED Photo-Transistor LED 60° / 120° 105° / 165° 30° / 142° 0° / 30°  The light from the LEDs focuses through the lens molded into the housing to the token, and then back through the lens to focus on a phototransistor if the reflection is correct. X-Mark Optical Codes  X-Mark Optics include one photo-transistor and two infrared LEDs.  Each unit can detect one of two possible code angles… or none at all.  The positions of the photo-elements sets which angles it can detect.

X-Mark Optical Codes  The front and rear side of the token may have different codes. IDX owns world wide patents on the art of optically encoded tokens and has more than once stopped mints from making tokens that would jeopardize X-Mark’s crossplay security.   15.  The X-Mark has an array of inclined reflective facets minted in a band about the periphery of the token.  When aligned with a light beam, the front and back sides of the facets create symmetrical bright spots.  The H-Mark produces asymmetrical bright spots from a merged pair of virtual holographic facets that cannot be physically minted into a metal surface. H-Mark vs X-Mark This Makes H-Mark Virtually Counterfeit Proof.

  16. The H-Mark Token And Xeptor Development Were Completed In 2003. H-Mark Status  Ticket-In-Ticket-Out technology that started to emerge in 2001 took hold and reduced market interest in tokens. The Market, However, Had A Mind Of Its Own The X-Mark still had not been successfully counterfeited. X-Mark’s great security record makes H-Mark not yet needed. H-Mark Is On Production Hold… Until The Market Says Otherwise.

  19. X-Mark vs X-Metal Xeptors  Currency coins often have a clad structure, but lack X-Mark. Token coins are secured with X-Mark, and have no cladding. Security Question: When do you use an X-10 vs X-20?

  20. tTOP – tMID Diameter = .870” + (.330”) Time difference ratio method makes the calculation independent of the speed of the coin. tBOT – tMID Precision Diameter TOP As the token passes downward, the TOP, MID, and BOT Diameter Beams are broken and re-made at specific points in time. .870” MID .330” BOT X-10 Example The average reading error is +/- .005” (0.12mm) Shaved Coins Fool The Credit Switch On The Hopper Exit And Thus Come Out For Free. Shaved Coins Should Be Rejected Before They Get Into The Hopper… A Deficiency In Acceptors Without Specific Diameter Sensors. Security Question: How Does This Relate To Empty Hoppers?

Typical Spec: 6 to 10 /sec Max. Here’s What… Security Question: So What? • A slug fast fed with other good coins could be given credit. • You will limit your revenue generation rate from fast players. • Your fast players may think the machine is defective and move on.

Installed Credit Optics Built-In Credit Optics External Credit Optics: • Part of the slot machine, such as IGT S+. • Located just below the coin acceptor. • Acceptor SENSE pulse is used to activate the machines credit optics for a moment. Internal Credit Optics: • Part of the coin acceptor , not the machine. • Located just above and below the gate relay. • Acceptor CREDIT pulse used by slot machine.  If Neither Machine Nor Xeptor Have Credit Optics:All Xeptors produce both SENSE and CREDIT pulses, so the slotmachine will function normally, but will be susceptible to stringing. Security Question:What If I Use The Wrong Credit Optics Option?  If Both Machine And Xeptor Have Credit Optics:For the same reason, the slot machine will function normally. Built-in credit sensorsprovide the best stringing defense by combining sequence logic from its other sensors.

  24. K-Key & X-Tracker The X-Key Provides:1. Access control for who can reprogram Xeptors.2. A record of re-programmed Xeptor Serial Numbers.3. A Time-Date-AuthID Stamp for the Xeptor to record. Once an Xeptor is re-programmed with an X-Key attached, the Xeptor becomes “Secured” and may no longer be freely re-programmed without an X-Key connected.

  39. Installation & Operation Master Tech Question: What is the purpose of using 6 coin samples? Master Tech Question 2: What Is The Purpose Of Having 6 Coin Memories? Answer: Variations exist from coin-to-coin. Variations exist from reading-to-reading. Therefore, a few samples allow the Xeptor to find the average and the distribution for each sensor reading to create the optimum value and tolerance for each coin signature parameter. Answer: Not all coins or tokens that look alike are alike:- Canada has 2 quarters, 2 dimes and 3 nickels.- A second purchase of tokens is not always identical. In order to accept all, each variation must be programmed. (Note: You can use HyperTerminal to see if you have variations in your coins)

  40. Installation & Operation Learn To Reject A Tough Slug Unwanted Coin Web Page Learn the Unwanted Coin in Coin Memory #1, Good Coin in #2. To identify it as a coin to reject, press button Sw-1 13 times. Complete the normal Coin Learn cycle as usual. The Xeptor will then reject / accept based on the better match.

It is Inhibited…. Check the door open switch, coin-in limit, check Sw2=0, swap unit. It is Sick… Turn Sw2 through positions 7 – F to determine the fault.
