  2. What is the ELP? It’s a personal document, promoted by the Council of Europe in 2000. It shows … • the level of the proficiency an individual has of a language or of several languages, • his/her language learning experiences and • what he/she has the ability to do in the language(s), being thus a means to report and show different aspects of his/her lifelong linguistic knowledge.

  3. Main Objective of the ELP • To clearly describe the linguistic competences and unify qualifications, in order to facilitate mobility across Europe.

  4. The Portfolio has 3 parts: LanguagePassport It identifies the user’s linguistic capabilitiesIt’s like a language CV Linguistic Biography It lists and shows learning experiences. It’s a reflection about a list of objectives checked Dossier A selection of meaningful works and materials related to language experiences It’s like the ‘book’ or professional folder of an artist. LanguagePassport • The user describes his/her experiencesin languages and culture • It includes the Profile or Global Scale, which describes the competences they have as communicative skills (speaking, reading, listening, writing) • The user has to reflect, self-assess and modifify it regularly.

  6. Linguistic Biography • It includes the history of the user as to the abilities achieved and objectives to achieve • In the Self-Assessment Grid the user shows what he/she can do in the language(s), his/her linguistic abilities, according to the common criteria validated in Europe. • It guides the learner to plan and evaluate his/her progress.

  7. Dossier • It has a selection of the works to show the language competences achieved. (Certificates, qualifications, acknowledgements, written works and reports, projects, recordings - audio, video, pictures, presentations, etc.) • It is used to report the learning achieved inside as well as outside the classroom (formal & informal learning), to complement the traditional certificates. It contains • Works done and • Materials used

Finality • Informative function: • It helps to identify competences (Cuadro de Autoevaluación - Self-Assessment Grid) • It helps to show others the knowledge and language skills developed by the user, according to the classification of the scales in the Grid • Formative Function (pedagogic function): • It helps the learners to reflect about their learning process, according to common criteria (learning objectives) • It promotes motivation for learning • It increases the learner’s responsibility
