  3. About the site • QAL processes Weipa bauxite to make 4 million MPTA of smelter grade alumina. • Built in the 1960’s, capacity upgraded by major expansions. • 44 PJ per annum energy consumption.

  8. Learnings from verification audits; Decision Making • Documentation of each milestone. • Centralized documentation.

Learnings from verification audits • Most key elements were covered well by existing procedures / business processes. • DRET were helpful by being specific in what qualities they were looking for to satisfy the KE’s, but weren't overly prescriptive about how that KE might be satisfied in practice.

  11. Changes planned for second cycle; • Communicating Outcomes • Make the public reports communicate more clearly. • QAL has had some good wins improving energy efficiency, but these are almost invisible to the public.

Changes planned for second cycle; Opportunity Identification and Evaluation, • Clearer distinction between ideas vs. opportunities. • Planning for a heavier effort up front. • Smaller portfolio of higher quality projects • Don’t underestimate the time taken to evaluate secondary impacts – can’t ignore these as might limit / reverse main payoff.
