GDOT STAFF PRIORITIES • Increased Enforcement--#1 Overall • Time of Day Messaging for Trucks • On-Line Truck Route Maps • Truck Information Signs Designed/Installed • Freight Movement-Specific ITS Application • Continuous Truck Data Collection Program • Develop “Smart Freight” Corridors • Investigation of Truck Havens

STRATEGIES BEING DEVELOPED • GDOT Task Orders: • Truck Havens Characteristics Research • NaviGAtor Truck-related Information Section on Website – Preliminary Definition Developed • Public Education Program (with Vicki Gavalas) • ARC Regional Freight Task Force • Freight Planning portion of Mobility 2030 • RFP to be released in Nov/Dec for major freight analysis • Identification of specific truck-friendly projects for TIP • Improvement of I-20/285 Interchanges

  7. OTHER ACTIVITIES • GDOT and Georgia Motor Truck Association developing appropriate messages for CMS for night time trucker information • GDOT Update of Statewide Transportation Plan – multimodal focus • ARC acquisition of Reebie Freight database and development of user tools

  8. FREIGHT ADVISORY TASK FORCE • Creating a long term forum for discussion of problems and opportunities • Identification of priority freight corridors • Identification of significant freight bottlenecks

  9. Operational Driver-Oriented Planning Early Conversation ARC Task Force includes: railroad, trucking industry and the ports. Support for mobility improvements, the concept of a Public Private Initiative for a truck only corridor was discussed. Area to be connected: from Austell to the airport area via a southwest crescent.

  10. LONG RANGE PLAN AND TIP Mobility 2030 Long Range Plan and 2005-2010 TIP include: • Cross regional corridor improvements • Smart corridor-system optimization • Investment focus on 20 most congested corridors • ITS Deployment

  11. Intersection improvements Regional ITS infrastructure TIME Task Force Regional Traffic Ops Task Force Freeway Ramp metering Interchange upgrades for trucks Bridge replacements Truck Climbing Lanes TRAFFIC OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
