Welcome to Ms. V’s 7th Grade Science Class • Write your name, date, period # • 1) Please describe some of the activities, trips, events you did this summer. • 2) How many siblings do you have? • 3) What are your hobbies? • 4) Are you involved in any sport(s)? • 5) Tell me three things you are willing to share about yourself or your family. • 6) Which subjects interest you? • 7) Who was your science teacher last year?

  2. About Mrs. V • 1th year teaching but was at CMS last year • Graduated from University of Florida in 2018 • I like to hike, fish, do jigsaw puzzles, play pickleball and hang out with my dog zeke

  3. Beginning of Class Procedures • 1. Come in, sit down, find your seat and take off your backpack. • 2. Take out your science notebook and materials needed for the day. QUIETLY begin your bell work. • 3. Write out the learning target and date in notebook.

  4. Classroom Norms • 1. When Ms. V’s is talking, students are NOT talking • 2. Follow the 3 P’s: Prepared Polite Performing • 3. Backpacks are off your backs and on the floor • 3. Follow classroom routines and procedures

  5. Classroom Norms • 5. No talking when another student is talking • 6. Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself • 7. Respect other students’ right to learn

  6. Bathroom • You cannot use the bathroom the first & last 15 minutes of class or during a lecture. • If we are working on an activity or seat work, raise your hand with the pass in hand. • If I say okay, bring me your pass & agenda.

  7. Silencing the class • 1) Two fingers • 2) Raise your hand • Count down aloud: • 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 • 3) Hand raised

  8. Silencing the class • 4) Ms. V says, “and all the students said…” • Students say “hush” • 5) Statue

  9. BE PREPARED • Bring all materials to class for each day. If you need to borrow a pen or paper, do so before class begins.

  10. Hand signals • Restroom: the hang loose symbol • To leave seat: examples: • sharpen a pencil • Get a tissue • throw away an item • Get a drink of water • To leave your seat to pick up an item on the floor • Wash your hands • Raise hand if you know the answer to a question, or if you have a question to ask

  11. Sharpening Pencils • If you need to sharpen your pencil, hold up your pencil. • If I nod or say yes, go to the sharpener. • At the sharpener, even though it is tempting, do not talk. • Quickly & quietly go back to your seat. It is not a social tour.

  12. Handing in assignments… • There is one basket for each class period. When you are finished with a test, quiz, lab report, or other assignments, place your work into the classroom basket.

  13. How to leave class… • The bell does not dismiss you, I do. • Make sure your seat area and table is clean • When dismissed, push in your chair. • Walk out the door.

  14. BE RESPECTFUL • The “Golden Rule is my motto: do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. • Follow all class and school rules. • Do not talk while I am teaching or giving instructions. If you have something to share, wait until you are acknowledged and then share. • When doing class work, work quietly and mindful of others. • Take care of classroom materials.

  20. Grading policy: 90 - 100% = A 80 - 89% = B 70 - 79% = C 60 - 69% = D 50 - 59% = F
