  2. “While many of my classmates have aspired to be pharmacists who will contribute to patient care in various clinical settings, I feel more captivated by the idea of pursuing a career in pharmaceutics. Pharmaceutics is a discipline in pharmaceutical sciences that deal with the science and art of creating the various dosage forms (i.e. tablets, liniments, injections etc.) To me, it just felt like an intriguing concept!”

  3. The programme is multi-disciplinary • Clinical coursework including: Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Pharmacotherapy, etc. • Practical sessions exploring: Compounding, Dispensing, Formulation, Medicinal Chemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Analytical Chemistry, etc. • Work attachment opportunities

  4. The Department of Pharmacy also organises clinical attachments for students during the semester break. • Opportunities include: • Retail pharmacy • Hospital dispensary • Attachments to drug companies, etc. • With such attachments, students can make more informed choices about their future career path and apply academic principles to real-life scenarios.

  5. Preceptorship at a hospital

  6. Beyond the courseworks, students can also join the NUS Pharmaceutical Society • Activities include: biennial sport meets; sharing sessions with practising pharmacists; field trips to manufacturing plant…. • There is much to explore and experience, so do sign up and be an active member!

  7. The NUS Student Union Freshmen Orientation Project serves as an opportunity for students to get together as a community. Pictured here is the float that Pharmacy students hand-crafted from recyclables . As can be seen from the magnitude of the float, the project took almost a year from conception to finish and involved students across all 4 years of Pharmacy, all in the spirit of the ‘Pharmily’.

  8. Students also get to contribute back to the society during their schooling years. Pictured here are various Year 3 & 4 students who have volunteered to help elderly residents sort through their medications at home. Students aid in spotting medication use errors, such as the continued use of expired medicines, taking duplicate medicines, etc. • A Community service project is spearheaded by Essential Medicines (Emed), a voluntary wing of the NUS Pharmaceutical Society. • Participants visit 1-room flats with certified pharmacists, helping the residents with sorting their medications.

  9. “From first learning about the pestle and mortar to tossing the mortar board, it’s been 4 years since I joined NUS Pharmacy. Somewhere in the future I’m hoping to work in the Quality Assurance arena, ensuring the supply of safe, effective and quality pharmaceuticals to the general public. While not the most traditional route that many tread, it seems extremely rewarding and worthy of striving towards.”

  10. Bad things will always happen; but learning how to cope with them is possibly the most rewarding challenge ever. Find a passion that energizes you; it will be what drives you when you feel like you have nothing left to run on. Don’t leave anything to later, always attend to it now because you’ll never find a ‘later’.

  11. I’ll be looking forward to seeing you!
