  1. Mallard Ducks Kyle Thornton Biology Summer Assignment September 2009

  2. Mallard Duck • Species: Mallard Duck • Time of Observation: 11:00 am- 12:00 pm • Date of Observation: September 5, 2009 • Location of Observation: Manchester YMCA lake • Description of Habitat: Grassy, Lake

  3. Mallard Ducks This photo was taken about 11:00 am and the ducks had congregated in the grass to look for food to eat . I’m guessing that they come together every morning to look for food , similar to a daily routine.

  4. Mallard Ducks After about 15 minutes the ducks started to form a line. Almost like they were in school. It was very interesting to watch them form their line because if one of the ducks wasn’t in line, another duck would come and almost push the other duck back in place, believe it or not.

  5. Mallard Ducks After the ducks started to walk to the lake, I tried to get closer to get better pictures . Some of the ducks moved out of the line, but most of the ducks kept walking. I was very excited to be this close to the ducks.

  6. Mallard Ducks Its not the best photo but this photo holds an exciting memory. As I honed in to get a close-up photo, I scared the ducks that were in line and they flew away, right above me. I think they scared me as much as I scared them.

  7. Mallard Ducks After about 45 minutes , and as temperature rose to about 85 degrees, the ducks congregated in the water, to take a swim. This was a good photo to wrap up the day.

  8. Mallard Ducks My experience with this project was nothing like any of my other projects. I learned about different things animals do that people don’t notice on a day to day basis. Just with the little time I spent observing these ducks ,I learned that they are like humans and have things that they do everyday almost like a schedule. I enjoyed this project and look forward to doing similar assignments in the future.
