  2. Purpose of NVDRS According to CDC, more than 50,000 people die from acts of violence, each year in the US. Of those 50,000 deaths, 32,000 are suicides and 18,000 are homicides In 2002, CDC implemented the National Violent Death Reporting System(NVDRS) NVDRS collects risk factors on all deaths from violence, specifically suicides, homicides and unintentional firearm, legal intervention, terrorism and undetermined intent.
