  1. Kimberly-Clark Engineering your Future Parts of this presentation have been adapted from sources at Kimberly-Clark Corporation, IBM, National Science Foundation and Society of Women Engineers (SWE)

  2. We are engineers at… Kimberly-Clark develops, manufactures, and sells common household products, safety apparel, and medical devices.

  3. What is Engineering? Engineering ….uses science and math to solve problems It is everywhere in the world around you. From the start to the end of each day, engineering technologies improve the ways that we communicate, work, travel, stay healthy, and entertain ourselves. Wait, do we really believe that?

  4. What do Engineers do? • Engineers can make something… • Stronger • Tastier • Quicker • Cheaper • From an idea to a reality • Let’s look at some examples to be sure

  5. How would an Engineer be involved? • Biochemical Engineering for Food Processing • Chemical Engineering/Food Developers for product taste, freshness, consistency • Mechanical/Process/Electrical Engineeringfor Food Processing Plant • Packaging/Process Engineering for printing of box and wrappers

  6. How would an Engineer be involved? • Computer Engineering to design and program, work with your computer • Material Engineers for plastics, colors, durability, feel • Chemical/Material Engineering for manufacturing of the components, batteries, chips inside, memory, LCD Screen…

  7. #1 Reason WHY Should You be an Engineer? • You should be an engineer because you have a passion • If you have a passion to: • Develop • Design • Test and Break • Or a specific Interest • Cars, Chemistry, Food, Computers… • Anything needs engineering

  8. Do You Have What it Takes to be an Engineer? • Are you curious? • Do you like to solve puzzles? • Do you build things...then take them apart? • Do you enjoy working with other people? • Do you want to make a difference in the world?

  9. How Should You Prepare for a Career in Engineering? • Math • Science • English • Computers • Art/Music

  10. So its not just Math and Science? • Math trains you to think logically, helps govern how we design, shape, build, and test • Science trains you to develop explanations based on observations

  11. Overall • Fun, interesting, and exciting work and people • High paying jobs • The ability to change the world!

  12. Where Can You Learn More? • www.Aspire.swe.org • www.discoverengineering.org • www.eweek.org • www.tryscience.org • www.powerupthegame.org • www.nyhallsci.org • www.engineeryourlife.org

  13. The challenge is yours • Ask questions! • Keep a great attitude! • Work hard in school! • Take lots of Math, Science & English, Art, Technology!

  14. What we are going do experiments about: • Weather • Simple machines • Light and electricity
