  2. General information • 56.594km2 – land, • 47% forrest, • 31.067 km2 – sea, • 3,2 mil. ha – overall agricultural area, • 454.000 – cattle, • 220.000 – dairy cows, • 18.000 – number of dairy herds, • 24 - average size of Holstein herds.

Breeding structure in Croatia • MPRRR – authorise breeding association, • CAA –central database, genetic evaluation, performance and linear scoring, perfromance test, animal identification. • breeders association (CHBF) – implementation of breeding programs,herd-book conduction, official pedigree (supported by CAA). • U.O.–veterinary ogranizations and breeders. • centers for artificial insemination. • 2 agriculture faculty and 1 college of agriculture.

Holstein history • Middle of 19. century – import of eastern-frisian cattle on Đakovo diocesces. • 1930. – beginning of milk recording. • 1946. - 1971. – import of 10 000 pregnant heifers on slavonian farms. • 1964. – import of 2 Holstein bulls: Saturn i Sover. • 1974. – the first national breeding program. • War 1991 - 1995. = almost destroyed breeding. • After 2000. - recovery and development (import ~ 40 000 pregnant heifers).

History of CHBF (SUHUH) • 2003. – first croatian holstein breeders association - UHUH. • 2006. – MLIKO - big dairy farms association. • 25.1.2008. – established CHBF. • Members– 11 regional associations. • Assembly, steering commity, president, supervisory board, professional breeding board. • Headquarters - Đakovo.

  10. Financial structure of CHBF • Nonprofitable organisation • Income • members fee, • pedigree issuing fee, • State budget – herd book keeping, • state and local authority - tenders for organization cattle shows and other projects, • donation.

Obligations of CHBF (1) • Herd book keeping. • Implementation of breeding program. • Participation in organization of progeny and performance testing. • Participation in type clasification. • Participation in organization of regional and nacional cattle exhibitions. • Farm adjustment to EU standards.
