  4. Graduated Driver License (GDL) A step-by-step driver license process applicable to all new applicants under 18 years.

  5. Probationary Drivers License Must be at least 17 years old Must have completed six months of supervised driving without any suspensions or postponements Must pass the MVC Road Test

  6. Probationary Driver License Restrictions *$100 fine for violating any GDL conditions(Same as permit) • No driving between 11:01pm and 5am. • Passengers limited to dependents and one additional person, unless accompanied by a parent/guardian. • Driver and all passengers must wear a seatbelt. • No using hand-held or hands-free cell phones or any other electronic device. • Must display decals

  7. Restriction A special need that must be met in order to drive legally. Example: corrective lenses

Restrictions are as follows: • 1- Corrective lenses required • 2- Prosthetic device • 3- Mechanical device • 4- Hearing impaired • 5- Attached restrictions 1 1 This category applies to special modifications to an applicant’s vehicle or limited driver privileges for a medical condition. The card detailing the attached restrictions must remain with the driver license.

  9. Endorsement A code used on a basic license when you have obtained a license to drive a different type of vehicle.

  10. Upon successfully completing 12 months of provisional driving, motorist MUST upgrade to a Basic Driver License in person at a MVC. (Bring your 6 points of identification.)

  11. Motorist eligible for, but WHO DO NOT upgrade to a Basic Driver License at the end of those 12 months will remain subject to GDL regulations.

  12. PROBATIONARY DRIVER • A new driver who is licensed on a probationary basis for a 1year period following the issuance of his initial license

  13. Altering a Driver License or Showing an Altered License • Fine up to $10,000 • &/or Jail 18 months • DLS

  14. Getting a License Illegally • Fine $200-500 • &/or Jail 30-90 days

  15. Mandatory Sentences • These are penalties set by law for certain driving offenses and, if convicted, the penalties set must be carried out.

  16. Documents that must be with you while Driving • License Permit (With NJ LicensedDriver with 3 yrs. experience 21 yrs. old or older) • Registration • Valid Insurance Card

  17. License Lost or Stolen • Report to police and obtain copy of the police report • Appear in person MVC for a duplicate with 6 points of identification

  18. Change in Name or Address • Address change within NJ ~ • 1 week • Name change ~ • 2 weeks • Address change from out of state • 60 days

  19. WHILE IN COLLEGE YOU MAY KEEP AND USE YOUR NJ LICENSE: RECIPROCITY: something done mutually or in return
