  1. IB Learner Profile

  2. Why is the IBLP important? • The responsibility of educators is no longer just to prepare good mathematicians, good biologists or good historians. The mission of schools is to prepare young people -the decision makers of tomorrow -to live in a complex multicultural society undergoing a rapid process of change and opening up a new world order. Of course, the cognitive component of an educational system is fundamental for the acquisition of intellectual and professional skills. Even more important is the acquisition of attitudes in the learning process in a context of cultural exchanges. GérardRenaud, (1991, p 8)

  3. Things Students Need: • Knowledge –strategically appropriate • Skills –to support the development of IBLP attributes • Dispositions (a person's inherent qualities of mind and character) –to instill the will to learn

  4. Knowledge • Knowledge is like money –it can sit under your bed and depreciate or it can be used to make more knowledge.

  5. Skills • Skills are needed to know what to do with knowledge and how to solve problems

  6. Dispositions • You may have the knowledge and the skills but if you don’t have the disposition to use them then you have them for nothing.

  7. The IB Learner Profile • Thinkers • Balanced • Caring (Empathetic) • Open-minded • Principled • Knowledgeable • Communicators • Reflective • Inquirers • Courageous • Risk-takers
