  3. Products • Smartphones: Torch: Style: Pearl: Bold: Curve: Tour: Storm: • First Blackberry Smartphone launched in 1999. • Used by more than 55 million people worldwide.

  4. Products Cont. Blackberry Playbook: -First professional tablet. -slim 7 inch touch screen -Half the size of apple’s Ipad. -Two Camera’s, Front & Back. -Through a wireless link, can be used as a larger screen for Blackberry Smartphones.

  5. Products Cont. Blackberry Presenter: -deliver presentations using you Blackberry Smartphone. -Simply plug into projector or screen and press “present” on your phone using the software provided. Others: -Blackberry Enterprise server. -Blackberry Web Desktop Manager -Blackberry Mobile Voice System.

Exclusive Services • Blackberry PIN: An eight character hexadecimal identification number assigned to each device. • Each identification number is unique • Users can “PIN” directly from device to device through the RIM server. • Causes problems in many countries on account to strong encryption along with access to the servers being outside government jurisdictions. • Many countries have attempted to ban the use of Blackberry devices on account to this. PIN represented as a barcode.

Before the Blackberry • RIM first began working in the wireless e-mail and paging industry. • Inter@ctive pager 950 was the first wireless device launched • Introduced in 1995 • began shipping in 1998 • Competed with the Motorola Skytel • Since 1998 RIM products such as the Blackberry have been earned the title “Crackberry” • Many people feel they cannot live without them

Mihalis “mike” lazaridis • Founder • Co-CEO and President • Age 49 • Worth an estimated $2.9 billion CDN in 2009 • Former chancellor of the university of Waterloo • A current officer of the order of Canada Responsible for: Product strategy, research and development, product development, and manufacturing

  13. RIM and The University of Waterloo • Mike Lazaridis attended the university • Has personally donated over $100 million to institution • RIM hires hundreds of co-op students from the university each year • A large proportion of its current employees are university alumni

  15. Fun Facts Named worlds fastest growing company by Fortune Magazine with a growth rate of 84% in profits despite the recession. Barrack Obama is noted for his love of his Blackberry. He is the first president to use mobile e-mail. 84%
