Economic Impact AnalysisBackground • The Economic Impact Analysis is an estimate of the financial impact an installation has on its surrounding area. • It is used as an asset for commanders to help show community leaders the economic effect a base has in the community. • There are four different sections to the analysis. - Payroll (Military and Civilian) - Expenditures (Construction, Services, Materials) - Indirect Jobs (Downtown Jobs) - Personnel Figures • OSD developed the EIA model in order to provide a reasonable, fair and consistent tool to compare the potential economic impacts of alternative 1995 BRAC commission recommendations

  5. Methodology • The EIA is regulated by AFMAN 65-506, Chapter 4 • Information was gathered as specified by AFMAN 65-506. Figures were then broken down into one of the three sections, and listed as specifically as possible • Only money that was spent or affects the local area is included • Information was collected through different departments on and off base along with descriptions to identify the numbers

  7. Indirect Jobs Created By D-M • Per AFMAN 65-506 Excel template D-M created 4K jobs within the local area. • U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Average Annual Pay for Tucson Metro Area is $42K • Total Value of Indirect Jobs= $174M

  9. FY09 – FY10 D-M Economic Impact Comparison • Davis-Monthan’s FY10 Total Economic Impact of $1.027B is approximately $20M greater than the FY09 Total Economic Impact of $1.006B. Retiree Population and Their Economic Impact on Tucson • Retiree data is not part of the EIA (by regulation). • D-M includes it to illustrate the growing number of retirees in the local area
