  2. Abstract: As a part of a system to broadcast compressed video signal to the network without using host computer resources. We are building an Ethernet interface card that functions as a translator between the video compressing mechanism and the Ethernet. As a first stage this card is installed in a host computer (which is in charge of initialization) using ISA interface. In this stage our NIC functions both as a translator from the video compressing mechanism to the net and as a standard NIC with ISA interface . In the future a processing unit on the card will control all the initialization functions preformed now by the host computer so that the system will be completely ‘stand alone’ .

  3. Specifications • The interface to the Ethernet is preformed by an AMD MACE 10Kbit/sec controller. • Physical connection to the network is through a Pulse magnetics transformer and RJ45 connector. • Compressed video is received via a 20 pin wide data bus which is controlled by I2C . • Interface to the host computer is through the ISA bus. • All interfaces are implemented by an Altera FLEX device.
