  3. Ask yourself: • WHY? • WHO? • WHEN? • WHAT? • WHERE? • HOW?

  4. Why? • Studying abroad gives your personal and academic development an enormous boost.

  5. Who? • At least 60 ECTS at time of application • Registered as UU-student, also during stay abroad • Study at partner university • Good language skills

  6. When?

  7. What? Courses! • All students (approved optional minor or not) can study abroad; • Courses must be part of your bachelor’s programme; • Major related electives or Optional Course Profile; • Only in exceptional circumstances mandatory courses can be taken;

  8. What? Courses! • Be aware of the 45 ects at level 3 requirement (you must have taken at least four courses of 7.5 ects at level 3); • Language courses up to 7.5 ectscan be included in the optional course profile; • For one semester: 30 ects. • Courses will be mentioned on Diploma Supplement

  9. What? Approval Board of Examiners Board of Examiners checks on • overlap with courses (to be) taken at U.S.E. • level • major related elective or optional course profile • Make a study plan and if in doubt discuss it with the academic counsellor

  14. HOW?We make it easy foryou: • Tuitionfees at UU • Studygrantfrom DUO and OV-card reimbursement • No or little delay in your studies • Guidancefrom International Officer (USE or StS) and partner institution

  15. Application procedure: • Go towww.uu.nl/students/use/studyabroad> Application and Deadlines • Provide at leasttwodestinations • Preparethe followingdocuments(don’twaituntil the last week): • Motivation letter • Studyplan • Financial plan • Resume

  16. Apply Start at least one month before deadline! • Step 1 > make choice in destination • Step 2 > visit www.uu.nl/students/exchange • Step 3 > read instructions • Step 4 > prepare all documents • Step 5 > apply online via Osiris > Stay abroad

  17. Deadlines Deadline USE partners • 4 January 2015 Deadline University Wide partners • 1 December 2014 for: • University of California / EAP • University of Kyoto – KUINEP • University of Wisconsin • 4 January 2015 forallother partners

  18. Finance • Tuition fees at UU • Study grant from DUO and OV-chipcard reimbursement • Within Europe: Erasmus grant possible

  19. After Submitting • Confirmation of receipt within one week • Selection will be known within two weeks • U.S.E. / U.U. nominates students to partner institution (partner decides upon final admittance)

  20. Keep in mind! • Active attitude. You have tosort out and arrangeseveralmattersyourself • Finances. It canbeexpensivedepending on destination • Flexibility. Be preparedfor (academic/cultural) differences and don’t ‘assume’ anything
