  2. In home construction, the architect’s BLUEPRINTS provide a builder with drawings of the house’s framework. Once the framework has been built, all other parts of the house will both emanate from and attach to that framework.

  3. And, like the building contractor is dependent on the architect . . . . . . so is the reader dependent on the writer. Both need BLUEPRINTSto guide them.

  9. Features of a tranny sentence • Must have ‘a foot’ in both paragraphs. • Must change the argument (topic). • May be either last sentence of a pre- • preceding paragraph or first sentence • of the following paragraph. • May double as a topic sentence. • Often is an absolute necessity.

  10. Tranny Examples Thesis = Household pets are a misery.

  11. 1st TOPIC = Trouble with dogs. But the annoying habits of dogs seem mild when compared to the incessant antics of cats. 2nd TOPIC = Trouble with cats.

  12. 2nd TOPIC = Trouble with cats. Add to the cat’s litter box the smelly lizard’s habitat, and the pet owner’s misery will escalate in proportion. 3rd TOPIC = Trouble with lizards.

  13. Put your tranny on the line! In this exercise, you will be given four practice trannies. Each practice will have a thesis statement and two or three topics, like the previous example on pets. Try to create a tranny for each pair of topics.

  14. Thesis : Soil erosion may be prevented. 1st TOPIC = Wind Erosion.
