  1. PPF1 Design • Current work • Altering radial layout and routing through PPF1 locations to ease problems of services routing • Design of ‘busiest’ PPF1 region, i.e Powertapes, Powertape Cooling & Optical Fibre CLRC

  2. PPF1 Design • Services routing from SCT EC to PPF1 CLRC

  3. PPF1 Design • Current scheme for PPF1 P/T & Opt.Fibre • Envelope CLRC

  4. PPF1 Design • Requirements • Support for up to 3 columns of 9 powertape PCBs • Support for optical fibre connections • Connector for fluid cooling • Routing for powertapes & cooling pipe & optical fibres (including straight through alignment fibres) + restraints for services into & out of region From http://www-f9.ijs.si/~cindro/cables/forward/pp0fz.pdf CLRC

  5. PPF1 Design • Close Packing of PCBs • PCB packing to achieve minimum volume • Wedge arrangement for PCBs • Bond neighbouring PCBs (from same disc) = single large PCB • 3 & 2 connector long versions of PCB CLRC

  6. PPF1 Design • 1st Concept • Idea • Use restraints at each end of PCB to clamp both powertape and conventional cable, then simply restrain both ends to locate PCB in desired location • Quick prototype • Quite difficult to get them to close pack as location and angle of PCB needs to be relatively accurate CLRC

  7. PPF1 Design • New concept • Relatively simple PCB restraints • Slot location for rear (no tools) • Sprung location for front (where there’s easy access) • Plate for other connections (optical fibre & cooling) CLRC

  8. PPF1 Design • New Concept Continued… • All PCBs set-up in dummy housing then tapes clipped together • Excess tape taken up in spare space over TRT EC Clipped further down bundle = little flexibility CLRC

  9. PPF1 Design Sample tape = 250um Actual tape up to = 400um Sample stack lightly compressed = ~18mm Actual tape estimated compress = ~29mm Actual space = 31.5mm - 1 mm for restraint box • Excess Tape CLRC

  10. PPF1 Design • New Concept Continued… • Cooling & Optical Fibres Region for optical fibre & cooling CLRC
